Hi everyone.

Last week fishstick was kind enough to send a trolling motor out to me so I could fish with my daughter.

I received the package and when I opened it, parts fell out. Fedex busted up the head of the trolling motor. The plastic case that contains the gears, cables and wires was completely broken off. Both top and bottom. The pointer is gone and a couple of the gears were out. I was able to piece it back together and hold it together with duct tape and it seems to be working ok.

Fishstick had it professionally packaged but they didn't put any protection in the package. They just stuck it in a square box with nothing else and off it went. Not even any bubble wrap, newspaper, ghost poop, nothing.

My question is this. Fishstick called Fedex and they want me to box it back up, they will pick it up, send it to some corporate office. They will make some kind of determination on if they will pay anything and how much.

It takes at least 10 days and since it was a used trolling motor, I'm guessing they aren't going to pay much and it will put me out of fishing for a couple more weeks at least. If they do pay a little bit, I can't afford the difference to buy a new one so should I just keep it as it is or send it back and be off the lake for another few weeks????

What do all you fine people think????

It's has nothing to do with money, I just want to go fishing with my daughter so I'm kinda thinking I should just use it the way it is. It doesn't look so great but it's functional. Can replacement parts be had from the manufacturer??????

Thanks in advance.

Man, you cant catch a break!

Was there not insurance on the package? Ive had fedex break something over $100 with insurance and they replaced it after some complaining.

Cant help with the other stuff, sorry

Whoever "professionally packaged" it,....if they are really professional (mail boxes etc, UPS store, etc) owns that claim.

Fedex will ask for the original packaging and then they will deny the claim when they see how poorly it was shipped.

It was packaged at a "Fedex store". I'm assuming those are privately owned.

If so, it sounds like they owe you a head unit at minimum.  Honor the gift with some effort.  10 days sucks but it's better than you having to buy another motor in a week when the duct tape lets go.

Push Fedex and make them pay for the replacement.  Escalate the problem if need be until you get it resolved properly.  They should pay the cost for the replacement or replacement parts.

I know the thought of not being able to fish for a while isn't very pleasing, but I would send it back to Fed-Ex.

Sorry all this had to happen. My wife dropped off the the trolling motor at a stores that ships FedEx. She paid the money to have it shipped out and to have it packaged because I did not have a box big enough. There was a line behind my wife and the lady told her they would package it up as soon as they were able to. I guess that is what we get for not watching her box it up. She was supposed to wrap it up with bubble wrap and pack it tight in a box. But my wife did not watch her do it. So it obviously did not happen.

I just got off the phone with the store that sent it. The owner will be in at 2pm. I am going there to explain the situation to her and see what can be done. I know BassChump soes not want to file a claim because that would mean another 2 weeks minimum of being off the water. Plus, with it being a used trolling motor (I do not have any proof of value since it was a gift) they would probably not even pay enough to purchase another used trolling motor. This burns me up. I could have drug that thing behind my truck and it would have arrived in better condition than that. Once again, I am sorry for all of the hassle.

Hey fishstick,

It certainly wasn't your fault. You went way above and beyond and I can't say enough how much my daughter and I appreciate it. I have been back on the water the last couple of days and it sure is nice with the weather warming up.

Trust me on this one folks. Fishstick ROCKS.

If it gets resolved, that's great. If it doesn't, I'm still back on the water so I can't be unhappy about that. Specially considering all the trouble you have went thru to get that out to me.

If you need pictures to show the Fedex store, PM me your email address and I'll get them right out to you. I can peel off the duct tape to show all the damage and all the little pieces that are broken off.

I hope all is well on your side.

           Thanks again for everything.

Well, great news. I can get all the parts for the head from a local service center for about 20 bucks. Sheesh!!!! I should have checked that first so fishstick and his wife wouldn't have gone to so much trouble.

I can't get the parts right now but it works fine so all is well after all.

I'll get the new parts in a few weeks and call it good.

Thanks again to everyone but most of all fishstick for all his help.

If you need any help putting in the new parts just let me know and I will try to walk you through it. If it becomes completely unrepairable, let me know and I will start with a 20.00 donation toward the purchase of a new one and I bet some others on here will jump in also. Good luck. Also, if the 20.00 will keep you from being able to purchase the new parts contact me and let me know when you want to go get them. My phone number is 281 224-8853, I will pay for the parts and verify the use of my credit card to the store manager.

Change that first twenty to forty if you need to purchase a new one. Just let me know how and where you want the money shipped.

No excuses now. If you want them this evening just give me a call.

Hi fishfordollars,

Honestly, I appreciate the offer. I really do but it's really not necessary. This is a functioning trolling motor and I'm good with that. It just doesn't look great. Neither does my boat so it fits well. lol.

I don't need to take your money or anyones money. The parts are cheap and I can get them in a week or two.

I'd love to get a new one but this works fine and I do honestly like it. I suits my needs just fine. Actually, it is a much better motor than the one that was stolen so I'm way ahead anyway.

I'm a fair mechanic and I'm confident I can get it together easily but if I do have any questions, I would appreciate it if I could call or email. That certainly could be a big help if that works for you.

BassChump

I have been reading all your threads on your bad luck. :'(

Maybe the broken trolling motor has become the hardest of your problems... fixing it may help you suceed in all your other efforts with your daughter and that big ole bass waiting just for her!!!

I am willing to go for what fishfordollars stated. 40.00 from any member with a heart heck we should have the money for you to buy a new trolling motor in less then 24 hours!!!

Hell I waste more money then that on tournaments I never win so why not try to help out a fellow angler??

I hope it all works out for the best and if it doesn't... We will be here for you bud!!! ;)

Thanks for the offer Nitroman. That's very kind of you. Everybody on here has been great. It's just awesome to see how many good people that are willing to offer help to someone they don't even know. You just don't see that in todays society anymore. Kinda make a guy feel pretty good about things.

Yeah, I've taken a few hits in the last few years but my daughter and I are doing fine and things are improving all the time. One nice thing about hitting the bottom, one can only go up from there and that's where we are headed.

As far as the trolling motor is concerned, I'm sure it will work out great. It works just fine the way it is and I'll get the parts soon so it will look as good as it works but I do sincerely thank you for the offer.

I really wasn't looking for any freebies. I just wanted to go fishing with my daughter and that is working out with everybodys help so everything is fine.

I'll be sure and get a few pictures up here when we get some fish in the boat.

                               Thanks again to everyone.

We really appreciate all your efforts.

Hi everyone. I got the parts to the trolling motor and put it together today. It was cheaper than I thought. Only cost me about 12 bucks and it went together pretty easily. Everything is working great and it looks like it is supposed to now.

One question. How important is it that the 4 wires are totally water proof??? I put the wires back together but they originally had shrinkwrap on them and all I had was electrical tape. Is that ok or do I need to waterproof them??

Again, I appreciate everybodys offers of help. It ended up working out great. Now all I have to do is figure out how to put something in the boat. lol.

Thanks again for all your help.
