Super User Root beer Posted June 20, 2008 Super User Posted June 20, 2008 I'm going to college this fall and I'm looking into buying a backpack that'll safely carry my 15 inch screen laptop plus my books. Somedays I have only two classes and some days I have 3. So I need a pack that big enough to put my books I'll need that day in it and also able to carry my laptop without breaking my laptop. I thought I'd ask on this forum since I know there are some college students on the board here. I've looked at this one.http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Carrying_Cases/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0609843 P.S. I dont want a messanger bag. Quote
frogtog Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Heavyduty trash bag, you can move everything out with this. ;D Quote
Evan Pease Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I have a targus thing from wallmart. I like it well enough but its stupid looking. Quote
daviscw Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I am a college student. I have The North Face Borealis. It holds my 15.4" laptop plus enough books for a whole day or class. Definitely look into The North Face, you'll find that's what the majority of college students wear. Good luuuuucck! Quote
daviscw Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Oh, P.S. - A lot of people wear those Swiss backpacks. P.S.S. I forgot to mention, my North Face had a laptop sleeve built in. That's all! Quote

Aaron Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I have one of the "swiss" back packs. I can't think of the name of the company for the life of me though. I have cariried it for four years and it is still going strong. I only paid thirty or fouty dollars for it. I occasionally carry my laptop in there with no problems. My one recomendation is that if you decide to carry a laptop in your bag that isn't designed for laptops I would buy one of those neoprene laptop sleeves. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted June 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted June 20, 2008 I have a laptop sleeve so if my new backpack doesn't have a laptop sleeve i"ll just put it in my laptop sleeve then stick it in my backpack. I've looked at several north face such as the jester, modem, and some others. Davis you told me your north face came with a laptop sleeve, and the spec doesn't say nothing about it and it makes me wonder if the other packs are the same way. I really like the jester. Thanks for the tips, I'll look around for more swiss or north face. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 The jester is one that I have, it's actually roomier than it looks. LOVE IT I use it for my daily stuff, work, etc. For on the boat, I use the base camp tool sack (waterproof) Quote

There was a tag that came on it that said "Laptop sleeve", so I don't know why it isn't in the specs. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted June 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted June 20, 2008 I was about to buy the north face, but then I saw this http://www.ebags.com/oneill/psycho/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=95299 I went head and bought the o neil. Even though it was sligtly more expensive, but I really liked the look, etc. But thanks for all the help. I just bought the O neil, because I really like the color you know? Most of the time the only time I carried my computer in my bookbag it was taking it to and from home, so you should be fine. Oh! Where are you going? Quote
Super User Root beer Posted June 21, 2008 Author Super User Posted June 21, 2008 Davis, I'm going to a community college here in Tennessee. I couldn't make up my mind which college I wanted to go so now I'm going to community college for free. Only thing I'm paying for is my books. : I'll probably transfer to East Tennessee state, Austin Peay, Or South Alabama. if I go out of state I'll lose some of my scholarship money. I didnt applied for the Tennessee lottery scholarship because this scholarship I have paid for all of community college, but when I go to a bigger institution the lottery scholarship plus my current scholarship will pay for pretty much all of it. So I'm still deciding where to transfer to. Quote
daviscw Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I hear that. One of my old girlfriends went to Carson Newman last year and decided to transfer to ETSU this year. I go to Appalachian State, so I made a few trips to Carson Newman last year. Quote
