Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Just chatted with HawgHunter and he has been evacuated. They are staying in his camper at the place he works. His house is on the OUTSKIRTS of the 500 yr flood plan, and they believe the basement is flooded already! Please keep all these folks in our prayers as many do not have flood insurance and many will be hard pressed to recover from this. Hoping all our Iowan and other flood affected members are all safe first and foremost. Hang tough guys, you're in our prayers Quote

tipptruck1 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 hookemdown most of iowa is flooded. They have evacuated waterloo, cedar rapids both with a population of about 150,000 each . Those citys are on the eastern part of iowa. Its pretty bad down there right now. Last tme I checked almost all 99 countys had some sort of warning most of them were flood warnings. The only reason Iam following this so munch is becasue I went to high school in easten iowa. But you should go to kwwl.com to see how bad it really is. I will also be sending all my prayers to the people in iowa and any were else its real bad. Quote

Pond Hopper Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Iowa City is going to be in trouble soon, Coralville is already going over the emergency spillway and the Corps of Engineers has no idea where it will crest with more rain tonight. Cedar Rapids is screwed, where Darrin lives. Just got off the phone with him and his neighbor, who stayed, said the water was up to his picnic table... and rising. Des Moines is experiencing serious flooding as are a ton of smaller towns. Not to mention the tornado last night that hit a boy scout camp and killed 4. It is an absolute mess and as bad as it sounds(although trivial) I have 3 routes to take to work and all are impassable. God must be trying to tell Iowa something, like 14 dollar beans and 6 dollar corn is not right : Quote

The water has NEVER been this high, EVER, the good thing is that we are OK and we have shelter. Here are a few pictures of downtown Cedar Rapids before and NOW Notice the bridges in the first photo and compare to the following 2 photos. The water is a long ways from the bottom of those bridges at normal water levels and as you can see, they were completely coverd.....it's just unbelievable This first picture is of the the courthouse on May's Island This is the courthouse right now! Daniel My Brother Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Darrin, Tough times for you guys. Here's hoping the water recedes quickly and the damage is limited. On a related note, My sister works at St. Lukes Hospital and my brother-in-law works for Rockwell Collins, they live in Marion and their home is surrounded by sandbags. I don't even remember seeing any body of water anywhere near their home when visiting. It's just crazy. Dan Quote

IMO it already is, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, are all experiencing major flooding. THere have not been the deaths related but the number of people displaced is insane and there are more towns to be evacuated as the water makes it down stream. If the Mississippi decides to flood or we get more heavy rains, it will get ever uglier. Either way Darrin let me know if you guys need anything. Quote

Yep not having many issues where I am at, although it has altered my route I take to work and added about 5 miles which I hate to even mention as it pales in comparison to what others are going through. That is where all the festivities occur, saw a guy in another picture using his canoe to get across the golf course. i'll keep u guys in my prayers Quote
