Red Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 ok first of this might sound stupid coming from me, a person who didnt learn his lesson the first 3-4 times i went through this, but you can bet i learned it this time. WEAR SUNBLOCK!!!! dont be an idiot like i was. i didnt really avoid using it it just didnt cross my mind really. spent all day sunday tubing on the lake, now i am paying for it. this picture is kinda gross i think so dont look if you get queasy. this is also only showing my forehead, i have the same thing all over the top of my skull. and some on my shoulders, but not as bad. the stuff works, use it! feel free mods to delete the pic if it too much, i just want to show whats happens in a severe case of sunburn. also, in addition to the burn i was sick all day monday and missed work. here is a link to some good info on the subject. http://www.ecureme.com/emyhealth/data/Sun_Poisoning.asp scroll down for pic. be smart Cliff Quote
toolpush Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Dang dude, are you sure the sun did that or did you have your head somewhere it did not belong ;D ;D just kidding, OUCH. I used some nutregena(sp) with like a 85 rating last time i went to lake didn't even have racoon eyes after full day in sun wearing sunglasses. at least wear a hat next time. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted June 4, 2008 Super User Posted June 4, 2008 Happened to me when i went to TX last may....I forgot to wear my hat and it was our first day there. My head was literally leaking goo.SO NASTY!Not as bad as your picture is though. Lesson learned..... Good advice always wear sunblock. Quote
Red Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 i ALWAYS wear a hat, but being we were haulin in the boat pullin a tube and i was also riding the tube at times, i put it in the glove box so i didnt lose it. Quote

skillet Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 DURN FELLA! Momma always said "Hard head makes a soft butt "! I feel for you though :'(. If I had got that much sun, I would be running a high fever with projectile hurling ... As Ever, skillet Quote
Teria Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I fell asleep in my pool when I was 12 years old. Having your whole body wrapped in gauze is something you just never forget. :'( Always wear sunblock. Re-apply it several times a day if you have to. I know I do. People have ask me how I was going to get the sunblock smell off my hands when I am fishing. I don't know why they ask. It hasn't seemed to keep me from catching fish. Your head looks really bad. I feel for you. I Hope you have some silvadene laying around. By the looks of it your gonna need it. Quote
skillet Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Red, got to thinking about it. That is really bad 2nd degree burns if not 3rd. You might think about a Dr. or at least Rx antibiotic... As Ever, skillet Quote
Red Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 i think i will be ok now though. the blisters all dried up and peeled off today during work ( i wear a hat) so now its all fresh new pink skin. i had been applying aloe vera ALOT, but now with the new skin it burns like the depths of hell when i put it on. i have actually had blisters worse than this before on my back and shoulders. i think it will be ok in a few more days. now i just gotta stock up on sunblock before i hit the water this weekend! thanks guys and gal! fish-fighting-illini Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Hey Red you didn't say but sunburn is one thing, sunburn with that type of damadge is a whole diff deal. Sunburn and being too sick the next day to go to work is proably in a league of its own. That is kind of like the difference in getting knocked out vs getting KO'd & throwing up and sleeping a lot. I have zero medical knowledge ( other than having 5 daughters ) but you probably should have went to E/R or min a Doc Her'es a link to sun poisoning http://www.mdadvice.com/library/ped/pedillsymp400.html Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 6, 2008 Super User Posted June 6, 2008 All you guys should wear sunscreen anytime you are outdoors for extended periods of time. Wearing a hat is not enough in itself, sun reflecting off the water's surface can burn any exposed skin. If you don't, sometime in your future you will be home instead of fishing and have bandages from having some of you body parts removed for testing to see if it is cancer. That is why I am home instead of fishing today. Red you are already too late for your date with destiny. Keep a close check on any unusual bloches, pieces of dry flaky skin, and small bumps. Wear sunscreen for now on so it won't be worse. I used to be called Red when I was younger, does you handle resemble any particular thing? Quote
Red Posted June 6, 2008 Author Posted June 6, 2008 no my handle is just short for my original name..."the red torpedo" but the new forums dont allow you to have same sign in name and screen name. i stocked up on sunblock last night, so i am good now. the only thing i have noiticed from past sunburns is that my shoulders are freckled ever since that first severe burn i got in high school.
