Super User 5bass Posted April 26, 2008 Super User Posted April 26, 2008 It's that time again. Our newest BR Elite Member. Stacy was an obvious choice. He is always one to offer solid advice, honest opinions and if you've read any of his posts, you can tell, he's one of the guys that was raised by the old saying... "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything". Whenever someone has an issue or problem posted here on the forum, Stacy will always chime in with some positive words and good advice. He's a good guy to have around and he delivers a breath of fresh air to the forums with his good spirited posts. We're honored to have him here. Now, can we get a big round of applause for our BR Elite Member for May....Stacy Abbott aka Fisher Of Men.... General: Name: Stacy Abbott Age: 38 City/State: Decatur, Texas Occupation: Middle School Science teacher/ Bi-vocational music minister Education: B.S. in Agriculture Science and Technology- East Texas State University (now Texas A&M- Commerce) 1992 Years fishing: Pretty much all my life (probably 35 years) Preferred style: (describe a day on the water) Just being on the water. Seriously, being able to catch at least four or five and a keeper or two is nice. I am purely a recreational fisherman (although having team fished some VERY small tournaments years ago). I am concerned with the experience more than the catch, although landing a 10 plus pounder would be an awesome experience. Personal: Favorite food: I can't narrow it down to one, but here's a few: steak, anything Mexican, Lasagna, Pizza Favorite movie: "Saving Private Ryan" Favorite quote: "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." Jesus Christ in Matthew 4:19- The Bible. Fishing: Favorite bait: T-rigged plastic worm Favorite set up (rod/reel): Curado Baitcaster/6'6" Berkley Series One MH rod. Favorite lake: A small private lake in Wise County (North Texas) approx. 15 acres Favorite hobbies other than fishing: Hunting, swimming, camping, playing the guitar/singing, sports. Here's Stacy and his daughter Lindsey 10 People you respect and/or admire: God Jesus Christ My wife, Leigha My dad, Stanley Abbott My mother, the late Shirley Abbott (1943-1987) My grandfather, D.J. Preston, Jr. My high school ag teacher, Butch Milford Senior pastor and co-staffer, Bill Cleveland Faithful friend and mentor who led me into the ministry, Bob Gilley Billy Graham Turn ons: People who are genuine and honest. Turn offs: Fake personalities, fronts, and politically motivated people. Aspirations: Continue to grow and mature in my faith, become a better fisherman, and enjoy life. Stacy and his daughter Essay: What are some of the major factors that have affected your life. A brief history to help us understand the road you traveled to become the person you are today. Please include influences. Having grown up in a small town with middle-class parents who worked hard for everything we had, I learned at an early age to be happy with what I had. At the age of 7, I found out my mother had cancer and grew from a boy to a young man watching her battle cancer several times. In August, 1987, cancer would take my mother's life, but not her spirit. Her perseverence in spite of her affliction has since motivated me to take on any task head-on and that my strength comes from God. I have learned far more lessons in my life from the many failures than I have ever learned from the victories. After her death, my father and I both faced our demons as we battled dependencies (mine on alcohol and his on drugs and alcohol). By the grace of God, I found a beautiful and wonderful partner to share my life with who helped encourage me and re-establish my relationship with my father. After being married in 1991 and finishing college in 1992, I have since taught vocational agriculture to high school students and am now teaching science classes to 7th and 8th grade students. I am also a part-time staff member in our church ministry where I work with children and youth. Fishing has always been a place of escape for me. It always seems that frustrations can be cast away with your line. Throughout my teaching career, I have taken many of my students along with me to share my passion for the sport. I encourage all of the younger members here on Bassresource to keep their heads held high, to stand up for what they believe in, and never give up!! Thanks for participating Stacy! The BR Staff Quote

Super User Jimzee Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 Congrats on the Elite status. What the others have said, you always do have something good to say even in a bad situation. I hope I get to meet you one day on a BR trip. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Thanks guys!! I'm really honored to be the May elite member. Your words are very kind. Having kind things to say and seeing the glass half-full is a motto that I've tried to uphold both in my career with kids and around my peers. Jimzee, I'm hope I get to see you and many others at a gathering sometime too. The downside is that the trip is usually one week after our school spring break and with state standardized tests coming up, it's not a good time to take off work. My 8th grade Science kids took their state test today (alot rides on these things; more than necessary). I am really relieved its over for another year. I wanted to make it over to Fork last year, but family illness took precidence. Maybe I can carve out a day or two to spend time with you guys next year or the next? You never know. Again, thanks to all!! Stacy FOM <>< Quote
