Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Sorry, but you guys answer these better than the customer service folks, lol. Quicker too I ordered a Motorola i355. I just love these versions of cell phones, call me crazy, it's huge,......but VERY durable. anyway, I had an i305. When the new one comes, can I simply remove the SIM card and put it in the new one? Super User firefightn15 Posted May 21, 2008 Super User Posted May 21, 2008 I don't know if the SIM card is interchangeable, but I have a Hershey's laying here. Man that phone is huge! Does that thing come in stereo? Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 As long as both phones take a sim card and are from the same network then you have a 99% chance that the old sim card will work. Although there is a chance that the technology has changed and the the new phone will need an upgraded sim card. I know with some old AT&T (Cingular) phones won't take the new 128k sim cards, but most likely you will be ok. Make sure you charge the phone completely before first use. Quote
slomoe Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 from the user manual Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Requirement The SIM card contained in each phone stores the service and account information for each Nextel customer. Generally, SIM cards can be removed from a phone and used in a different phone without impacting the account. However MAM requires that a phone retain the original SIM card and not be transferred to another phone. Due to licensing agreements, MAM distributes applications based on IMEI (stored on the phone) and Phone Number (stored on the SIM card). When these values do not match (because a SIM card has been moved to a different phone) problems with application distribution will occur. The application will always be sent to the IMEI on record with MAM. Therefore, if possible, avoid changing SIM cards. If a SIM card needs to be changed by a user, the Administrator must update the IMEI for that phone (see Editing Handset Properties in the Guide to Using Mobile Applications Administrator for Enterprise Application Administrators). However, if the IMEI is updated, any existing application assignments will be deleted. Should an employee upgrade their phone, MAM will allow you to enter the details for the new phone. It usually works for calls but sometimes a few of the applications wont work. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 21, 2008 Super User Posted May 21, 2008 They will interchange. A sims card should fit any phone that uses one. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 From the looks of it you can also put it in a big ziplock bag, duct tape a rope to it and use it for an anchor! Multi use phone you gotta love it! LOL FFI- AKA Matt Crum Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 21, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 21, 2008 Be sure to save your contact list to your SIM card before using it in your new phone. It's not uncommon to mistakenly save it to your phone instead. Downloads, such as ringtones and games, cannot be transferred. Given the age of your old phone, it's very doubtful anything you've downloaded works with your new phone. Why Nextel? Company perk? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 21, 2008 Super User Posted May 21, 2008 Be sure to save your contact list to your SIM card before using it in your new phone. It's not uncommon to mistakenly save it to your phone instead. Downloads, such as ringtones and games, cannot be transferred. Given the age of your old phone, it's very doubtful anything you've downloaded works with your new phone. Why Nextel? Company perk? That happened with my first phone upgrade. I had all my contacts on the phone, not the card. On my second upgrade, there was something wrong with the contacts on my SIM card so I couldn't transfer them. If you can, take the old phone to a Nextel store (if they exist, I only see Verizon stores around me) along with the new phone (or to get the new phone there) and ask the people there if they can transfer it. If they can't do the SIM transfer, sometimes they can do some sort of link up to go straight from phone to phone (although I don't know if they can do that with all phones, they did it with my new one though) Quote
Jake P Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 They will interchange. A sims card should fit any phone that uses one. Not true, I handle parts every single day to all major cell phone companies and i have seen some that are interchangeable and some that arent. Some are shaped differently and some have upgraded technology that wont fit previous/ newer models. I can ask for you again tomorrow LBH and let you know for sure if you'd like. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Why Nextel? Company perk? In short,....Direct connect. I use it with the few people I talk with every day, my fishing partner and my management team at work. Saves me a TON of minutes. I asked previously if any other companies offer this,.....I'm open to suggestions. Quote
slomoe Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I asked previously if any other companies offer this,.....I'm open to suggestions. nextel can only direct connect with nextel phones on the iDen network. Cingular offers this but is only compatible with cingular on their network. Same thing with sprint. (I know nextel/sprint are the same company, but they are still on different networks.) They will interchange. A sims card should fit any phone that uses one. The only way that you could use a SIM in a phone from another company would be if we were in europe or asia, or any country other than America where they don't lock their phones. Even some of the older nextels use different SIM cards, Like the double digit series. (i65, i95) But the i305 and i355 should be interchangeable, but like I said before, I would contact Nextel/sprint when you get your new phone to activate you old SIM under your new IMEI or else all of your applications may not work. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Thanks folks. Slomoe,...you're not as slo as I thought ;D J/K of course, I appreciate everyones input, I went with the i355 and Nextel said it will take my old sim card. Thanks again everyone!!! Quote
fishbear Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 LBH, Yes, your sim will swap over to your new phone. Until you get to the newer Nextels that use a different Sim Card. Will send you a PM on some other things about that phone.. but I can tell you this, it is indestructible. I sell nothing but accessories for cell phones on the wholesale level and that phones accessories are still one of my biggest sellers. Quote
slomoe Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I can tell you this, it is indestructible. I did this Nascar/Nextel show a while back and I was talking to this guy. I was trying to upgrade his phone, But he wasn't having it, he said he was happy with the one he had. I asked what kind it was. He said "watch this"....Pulled the phone out of his pocket and threw it down the shopping center sidewalk. He walked over, picked it up, made a call with it and walked away. ;D That was the i305 Quote
