Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Woke up this morning and the screen on my cell phone looked like this It usually says "NEXTEL" where it says "Ready". I have no service, but plenty of bars. When I make a call, it says "call failed, try again later" I'm all paid up too. Any clue what's going on here? Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 With the phone on take the battery out. This will do a hard reset and may fix your problems. I have to do this fairly frequently with the smart phones we have here at work. If that doesn't work try calling the phone and see what happens. Last resort call customer service. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 19, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 19, 2008 It's telling you to switch to T-Mobile. ;D Leave the battery out for at least 30 seconds next time. If that doesn't work, somewhere buried in the menus you should be able to select the network you're using - or at least it will tell you what network your using - it might say "nextel" or "sprint". It's possible Nextel did something that is causing the problem. Nextel/Sprint use 3 different, uncompatible technologies which create a lot of problems. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Thanks, I was hoping you would see this. I bet you're glad you don't work f or Nextel/Sprint, eh? You'd have a broken toe from kicking the server so often, lol. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 19, 2008 Super User Posted May 19, 2008 Now I know why you did not take my call this morning. Call me when you get it fixed at 281 224-8853. It did not ring, just went straight to V/M Quote
Super User Alpster Posted May 19, 2008 Super User Posted May 19, 2008 I would go to a land line and call customer service. If you can understand what they are saying through the Indian accent, there is probably a number to dial that upgrades the firmware on your phone to make it compatible with networking changes your carrier has made. I have had to do this with Verizon a couple of times, but my phone didn't stop working. Good Luck Quote
daviscw Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Man, that phone is ancient! Like Alpster said, I'd call customer service. With Verizon you just dial *611. Sometimes it's a pain, but they can usually help. Quote
Jake P Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 LBH, i work at a warehouse that specializes in fixing cell phones, mainly Motorola phones. I will talk to some folks at work and see if i can figure out your problem and find you a solution. Good luck in the meantime. Quote

Bassnbrett101 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Go to verizon, lol the only problems I've had with their phones is that they don't work after they've been in the water 8-) Quote
Jake P Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Oops.... I forgot to ask :-[. I was super busy all day so it never crossed my mind. Ill try and remember tomorrow if you haven't already figured it out. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 You couoldn't give me AT&T for free after the issues I had with those clowns. Well, I got cust service and they informed me to do a "master restart" from the connectivity menu. I did and now it says "no signal". Still won't make or accept calls. I have Erics spare now so anyone trying to reach me can do so today. but I'd still like to get my phone figured out so if you could ask today Jake, that would be great. Thanks everyone! Quote
jhoffman Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Wow, that still works? I will say one thing, I dont know when that was purchased but there is a good posibility the technology for it has changed slightly. Maybe a different standard that the phone was not made for. As a side note, nextell is sprint now, i have the same service. Thankfully my contract expires soon. They are horrible. Quote
slomoe Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I used to sell nextel a couple years ago. Sometimes we had people come in with similar problems. I would just say make sure your using the correct line. On most nextels you have two lines. One with your number attached, and another if you want to add another line. Most people only have one line though, and by playing with the options accidentally switch the number to an inactive line. On the screen it says 1, so I'm not even sure thats the problem, but I would take it to a Nextel direct store and have someone take a look at it. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 Guys, thanks for the help but it's the phone, not the technology. It's just "done". I've owned it for 5 yrs, it's flown out of the UPS truck repeatedly and survived downpouring rain on the boat. It served me well,....time for another. Fortunately, they offer the same phone but with a color screen now. Seriously, after what I've done to this unit, it should have died 3 yrs ago. I will have no problem forking the cash for another one of these, although bulky, I HIGHLY recommend these for people who torture their stuff. As for coverage, I work in the boonies of our state and I've had most of the services and this one has more coverage than any other I've tried. It may have changed now, 5 yrs later, but I save a ton using direct connect with my bosses and fishing partner so I think I need to stick with them. Do other companies offer direct connect now? If so, does it work with other companies? Like If I had t-mobile direct connect, could I call a nextel radio with it? Quote
slomoe Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 cingular has direct connect, so does sprint. But they are sent through the data network and are delayed a few seconds. All walkie talkie features are exclusive to each company. Quote
Jake P Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Well i asked and they all said do a "master restart" and i said if that doesn't work then what? They told me they had no clue, one girl told me to take it to the store and tell them because it may need to be serviced. Sorry i couldn't help you out more but thats all the help i got. Quote
