Ballpark Frank Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 My family has been playing PS2 and PSP for several years. We are wanting to get a new gaming system, but can't decide which one, the Xbox 360 or Wii. The Wii's interactive capability is really cool, but I think we might get tired of it. The Xbox seems to have a better selection of games and availability. I have played the Rapala fishing and MLB on the Wii, and loved it. Their system prices(if you can find a Wii) and game prices seem to be comparable. If anyone has any experience with them, or has a preference for one, please give your advice and reasons. Thanks Quote
Fish Man Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 i would definetly go with the 360. We have both the Wii and the Xbox and i love them both. Like you said the xbox has a much better selection as far as game and it also has better graphics, and the ability to play live online. its fun to play the wii and be able to interact with it but and it come with wii sports. the downside is that alot of times i dont feel like moving a whole lot while playing a game and plus i usually dont like games as soon as i get them because the controls are always so difficult to get used to and never the same as the last game you played as opposed to the xbox (and ps2) that have controls that are for the most part the same for many games. one thing to watch out for in the xbox tho is in the older models(not sure about the newer) there is a tendancy for the parts inside the machine to fail and ruin it. sorry for writing a book Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 11, 2008 Super User Posted May 11, 2008 Xbox360 - more games available. That's probably the biggest differences. Quote
Red Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Cory N got it right on the money, video games are way better on a PC, IMO!! Quote
Top Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 both systems have thier good points... I have both... I prefer the Wii for sports games.. but for shooter and driving games.. 360 is the way to go... bass fishing on the Wii is as close as I get.. and its actually pretty fun! AL Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 PS3... Why take a chance on an Xbox that will just break, and then have to be sent back to be repaired? Quote
utser Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 i'm on my third 360 in a little over a year. red rings of death syndrome. games are great when it works. Quote
rfrazier Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 For a family system I would recommend the Wii. Mariokart, smashbrothers, mario galaxy etc... fun multiplayer games. You don't always have to use the Wii controllers. Gamecube controllers work and are my favorite controller out of all of them. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Wow...Excite Bike. Old School fun right there. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted May 11, 2008 Super User Posted May 11, 2008 Nintendo has been around for a while go with the wii. BTW i have seen way too many x boxes go dead after a few months of pampering even Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Xbox is made by Microsoft. That's enough to keep me away from it. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Didn't they solve most of the Red ring problems? Considering how many XBOXs have been sold (way more than Wii and PS3) the proportion of broken consoles doesn't seem too high. I really don't think this is as large of a problem as many think it is, especially anymore. Also, don't discount Microsoft as a company, there is a reason why their console has outsold all the others, and that is because it is a good product. I would come down to this, if you like kid type games, get a Wii, if you play games for older people (Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo3, etc..) go for a 360. Although I agree that PC is the best gaming method, if you are trying to game with people (family, friends) in the same room, a PC just won't work. PC is generally better for when you just want to play with yourself or if you have dedicated gaming friends who you can find servers with. Quote

You would be absolutely shocked at how many Xboxes go through U.P.S to and from Texas to get repaired. I must have seen about 100 in one trailer the other night. We have a 53' trailer that is outbound for Dallas, and the kid that loads it was saying they just keep coming everynight. From what I have personally seen/delivered, it is a huge problem for Microsoft. I have a buddy who's on his 3rd one. : Quote
Fish Man Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 PC is generally better for when you just want to play with yourself sorry couldnt help myself Quote
Cory20 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Why hate on the ps3 best system out. :-X I am not hating on any system, I just thought that chart was funny. Blue ray for the win right? I play first person shooters, mostly H3 and COD4 online, Bioshock is awesome too. I just have to remember to keep up my sacrifices to the microsoft gods... edit: why can I not abbreviate For The Win as the first letter of each word? Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 edit: why can I not abbreviate For The Win as the first letter of each word? LOL, send a PM to Glenn. Apparently it has other meanings. Quote
TruflShufl Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 My 360 just red ringed a couple weeks ago :-[ I prefer 360 but I like FPS games and I thrive on multiplayer. Wii is neat but not worth the trouble of searching for it. Just depends on what you like. Quote
Cory20 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 My brother got so lucky to find his! He literally showed up at a Target as they were taking 5 of them off the truck. The people at Target had no idea they were getting them either. My bro got one and someone else bought the other 4. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 I may be an old fart, but after one hour with a Wii, I was ready to ventilate the thing with 124 gr. hollowpoints. Quote
-ebby- Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 i have a 360 for over two years and have no problems with it, i have played the wii and it is fun to but i would probably lose interest after a while Quote
crazy4bass1 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 i enjoy my wii but i will be gettin a 360 soon so i can play gta4 it looks amazing Quote
Davis Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I have owned both. If your buying something for the family: Wii If your buying it for the online experience: 360 I sold my 360 because I didn't have high speed access and I felt that is where most of the 360 games were being geared towards. Picked up the Wii and have played it for over a year now. Great party system and also great to play with the kids. Plus you get all those great Nintendo games from the past. If your on a budget than the Wii is also the way to go. Now even if you don't feel like moving around, the newer wii games have control options where you don't have to do any movements and you can even use the older gamecube controllers. After all that....I prefer the Wii to be honest when I am gaming. But I'm far from a hardcore gamer. Quote
