TheBeast Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Nothing really wrong with the yota's but for the way I use a truck they wouldn't be as durable, but of course you can't compare a 1/2 ton gas to a 3/4 diesel (06 chevy). I also have a F-150 and the Uplander van and believe it or not I have a geo metro as well, although I don't see me hooking the boat to it. They don't have to repackage the black just get a cheap one off the lot and swap the chrome for the black on it. That way they don't even have to order the black new just remove and replace. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 fatmanslim: The Dodge has a lifetime warranty for a reason, just like Burley said all your buying is a guaranteed piece of crap. Lets see here... Vehicles now a days are wear dated, every part has a life expectancy so the manufacturer can make more money. The lifetime warranty is making it so the manufacturer has to build longer lasting and better built parts because if they don't they are going to be eating the bill when it comes to parts. Chrysler is putting their neck on the line saying its lifetime, pretty much telling the consumer that their getting a better product b/c no one else in the industry is willing to back up what they produce. If i remember right i believe toyota had a problem with one of their suv's a couple of years ago where they would lose a main bearing and they couldn't do anything about it to fix it, and this usually happened right after the warranty was up and the customer was shafted for broke car... It was the motor and they couldn't figure out why... Toyota is mehh in my book. But also seeing how im going to oklahoma state for chrysler, im slightly biased Quote
TheBeast Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Did some checking on the Dodge lifetime warranty. There are quite a few stipulations to it. They require regular service to be done and documented and the only sure way to do this is to get it done at the dealership who will fill out the service record which leads to generated revenue from overpriced service. They will use the service interval charts to get out of warranty repairs. If you didn't replace that timing belt at 60K miles, and it failed at 70K, well guess what, that was negligence, and the damage to the engine isn't covered and the warranty is now void. And what about wear items such as the waterpump, exhaust, alternator, power steering pump etc. I imagine there is a stipulation on those. And the vehicle has to be brought in every 5 years for a dealer inspection, which the dealer could easily say this has been neglected and your warranty is void, the inspection has to be done within 60 days of the 5 year mark or the warranty is void. The biggest thing is it is only to the original owner and non-transferable which they are playing into the fact that most (I say 70-80%) of people only keep a new car 2-4 years and trade. Then the standard warranty would have more than sufficed and this is all just talk but makes for great marketing. You also need to take into consideration is Chrysler/Dodge even gonna be around in the next 10 years. They have been bailed out by the .gov twice and Mercedes was the latest to try and turn them around and found it was a lost cause and dumped them. Like it or not Mercedes is probably the most reliable best built cars on the road. I never thought much of them till my cousin started working at a delaership as a mechanic and was telling me how well built they are, and I have helped him work on his personal Mercedes and they are built like tanks. Get this the new warranty is 36K like all others but say you have transmission go out, which I haven't heard him talk about unless the car had 200K+, but you can buy a rebuilt trans from Mercedes and they give a 100K warranty on the rebuilt ones. Fish Chris Posted April 9, 2008 Author Posted April 9, 2008 I really hadn't even considered a new Mercedes for pulling my boat :-) Maybe I should ??? :-) LOL Seriously though, I get what your saying, and I agree.... with our local Ford dealership just filing for bankruptcy, and rumors of our Dodge dealership following closely behind, Toyota does feel like a safer choice from that aspect. Granted, one local place going under, is still a long ways from the whole corporation going under.... But still.... Fish Quote

TheBeast Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 That's cool, I was just mistaken on the facts of the latest Daimler deal. I may be mistaken but i have never been wrong.......only mistaken. Quote
WIII-60 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 For the life of me I can't remember which magazine I was reading but, The Tundra 4x4 was the least liked truck (most compliants, maintenence issues, etc.). The 4x2 Tundra was the most liked. On another note, the volkswagen tourag had 241% more complaints than any other vehicle last year. Yikes! I had an 05 dodge ram 1500 with a lot of bells and whistles for awhile and never had a problem with it. I liked that truck very much. Quote
paulc Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I own 2 Aamco Transmissions in So Cal and there is no doubt in my mind that you will get 3x the miles with the Tundra that you will with Ford Chevy or Dodge. I own a 2000 tundra that I punish (spends as much time in 4wd as 2wd) and it has 180K on it no problems. I also own a 02 4 Runner and a 04 Highlander. Toyotas are the best vehicles on the road for the money. Quote
BirdNestBen Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Just wanted to jump on the Toyota Bandwagon.... I've had a bunch of different Toyotas and they haven't let me down yet. My buddy has had 11- count em 11 different Toyota trucks and never had a problem with any of them..... No doubt Tundra is the best.... I sold them before and know how good they are.... but also know the Tacoma is a great little truck... Might check into a Tacoma and save some $$.... Warranty??? you won't need it........... Also, might go to another dealership and see if you can get a better price??????? Quote
ian515 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I want to jump in on this and add, yes, toyotas are awesome. in fact most trucks I drive are awesome. trucks in general are awesome. but I would wait for toyota to release their diesel line. have you seen the videos of the toyota hilux series?! they are AMAZING!!!! I bought a ram 2500 cummins, but if they had a toyota diesel in america, I would have bought that in a heartbeat. in my opinion though, diesel is the way to go, HIIIIIIIGH mileage engines, and more fuel efficient, more towing capacity, and if the engine is built right, more economicaly friendly too! granted they are a little more spendy up front, but you are getting a bomb proof engine for your money. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Not a lot of experience here FC, but there is a new (to me) 05 4 runner in the driveway. I absolutely love it and after disassembling the entire interior the 1st week, I will go so far as to say that this car came apart and went back together very similar to those of German engineering. I've taken apart a lot of interiors and this one impressed me as to the thought given to the things most folks will never "see". Quote
