Super User roadwarrior Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 Old news, where have you been? "Elvis has left the building." Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 2, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 2, 2008 Muddy got "into it" with another member on our site via e-mail, and posted about it here on the forums - including quotes from the e-mail exchanges. After review, I decided the other member was the aggressor and in the wrong, and banned him. I then informed Muddy that I prefer he let the mods and I deal with such issues (as I've seen many incidents like this continue to escalate and blow up.). I also told him I banned the other guy. I then deleted the thread because I don't want people to think that's the way to handle disputes. Muddy blew up, claimed I was a "corporate suck-up", and then deleted his profile. When somebody deletes their profile, they do it for 2 reasons: 1. To disrupt the forums and "make a statement" 2. To call attention to themselves. I don't think it's helpful to entertain this selfish act, as it encourages others to do the same. I won't allow the harmony of the membership to be disrupted by one member who is thinking only of himself. Therefore, I removed the most recent posts mitigate his efforts for attention, and to nullify the "statement". I also removed posts concerning his act for the same reasons. I did this because the mods and I have recieved numerous complaints from members about the endless, mindless bickering that's happened around here in recent months. People are tired of the drama, and frankly, so am I. This place is different - usually void of flame wars and snipes. Members have mentioned many times how much they like that, but have recently lamented on how that "magic" has eroded. At the beginning of this year, the mods and I recieved M-A-N-Y complaints from members about mindless bickering and arguing with demands to do something about it. The goal of the mods and I since then has been to bring the "magic" back to the membership. Allowing individual members to disrupt those efforts goes against the grain. It's just more needless drama that membership has clearly stated they do not want. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Glenn, we appreciate all you do to keep the forum running smoothly. I have learned a ton from this site. I have noticed that some people like to chastise others for trying to help out members. I have been a victim of it myself. That is why I claim not to be an expert. I can only offer what I have personally experienced. Some days I just don't feel like replying to some topics, because I know I will get belittled like I'm an idiot if certain folks don't agree with my posts. I will pick my topics more carefully from now on. Hopefully we can get some magic back in here. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 1. To disrupt the forums and "make a statement" 2. To call attention to themselves. 3. They made a mistake. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 I'm glad someone finally spoke up and let the membership know what happened instead of giving everyone the run-a-round. He definately was out of place and wrong for taking actions like he did. Sometimes that old saying "familarty breeds contempt" does apply. Onward and upward to a better forum Glenn. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 A lot of people hate to see Muddy go but I understand the dilema that the mods probably had. We did lose the PFLueger Posse sherrif & the King of Mooks all in one shot though Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 No matter what happened Muddy will still be considered a friend. I just wish he would have given one of us a call. Heck he has all of our phone numbers. > All the mods are easily approachable. He knows that more than anyone. We don't mind getting PMs or phone calls about things happening on the forum. That's part of our job and we still love our job. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 2, 2008 Super User Posted May 2, 2008 Clearly, posting the contents of personal emails and/or pm's is not good. It betrays trust regardless of the reasoning. I think it would've been a better idea for muddy to have forwarded those emails to Glenn or one of the mods and let them deal with it, which it sounds like Glenn did. Sorry to see muddy go. He was a good guy. Quote
Bassnajr Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 MATT.... I also had members "busting my hump" for lack of a better way to say it. I am NO expert, but I won't let the bullies on here keep me from asking a "dumb" question or commenting with information to try and help others if I feel I can. It's advice.....they can sort through what they want to use and what not to use. I also say thanks to Glen and the mods for, unfortunatley having to referee some posts. The members stay and continue on, and the troubled people leave. Life, and fishing, go on!!! Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Glenn thank you for telling us what happened with muddy, I really appreciate it and I repect your actions. He was in the wrong in my opinion but I still hate to see him go. He was a great guy who always made everyone laugh with his posts Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Muddy, If you're reading this, we want ya back!! Ike 8-) Quote

They made a mistake. LOL! Yes, well, there's that too. I was speakingin the context of when it's done deliberately with intent. Not when somebody accidentally hits the "delete" button (yet another reason why I removed it). Quote

Daiwa Posted May 2, 2008 Author Posted May 2, 2008 Oh, thats sad. Will he beable to come back, or did you do something with his IP address? Quote
telecaster Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Thats unfortunate,Muddys a Good Man. Thanxs,Muddy peace jim Quote
nboucher Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Boy, this all really is unfortunate. Sure, Muddy can get carried away with himself sometimes, but who hasn't? He is a man with a good heart, and I do think we're worse off without him. I just hope we can put it all behind us and welcome him back, should he decide to return. As for quoting the contents of e-mails, etc., without permission, I'd never do it, but at the same time it's hard for me to get incensed about it. I had a boss once who told me never to put something in an e-mail that I wouldn't want to see on the front page of the New York Times, and I remember that advice every time I send one. No electronic communication is ever really private. Quote

FishingBuds Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 he'll come back, they always come back Glenn-great monitoring. I for one if it helps just keep a copy of the post, I wait to see if there is a pattern on attacking me. But, so far so good-just seems to be a few that have a bad day like me. But theres to many good fellas here that way out wiegh the leaving part. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 3, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 3, 2008 Oh guess what? I understand there's a few gossipers out there who think removing the "ex-member" status has something to do with advertisers. I don't get the connection, personally. I've never had any advertiser say anything about "ex-members" nor even ask me what it means. I honestly don't think they really care about it, nor do they even notice it (if any advertiser reads this, feel free to agree or disagree here on this thread). At any rate, what I do here is completely focused around the membership and making this a pleasant place for everybody. I've been doing that for 11 years now, and have no intention of changing my ways now. Hope that clears it up. If not, the door is always open - feel free to PM me with questions and I'll try to answer best I can. Quote

flippin4it. Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I have butted heads more than once on the forum and have had stern "talkin to's" and still am able to dust myself off and get on with it. It's about your own character and how you handle it. If you work it out or bail out............I'm way to strong willed to walk away. With that said, Muddy. Turn around and come back! We'll get you dusted off. Quote
Branuss04 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Thanks for babysitting glenn, your doing a great job!!!! ;D Quote
