slomoe Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Just watched Shoot 'Em Up Last night. I didn't know what to expect, but after the first two minutes I could tell it was Michael Davis' response to Tarentino's grindhouse flick that came out last year. It was horribly good. Halfway through the movie (I think right after Clive Owen jumps off a rooftop holding a newborn baby and stabs someone in the eye with a carrot) I lean over to my girlfriend and say "It took some serious talent to make a movie this bad" Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 8, 2008 Super User Posted February 8, 2008 I liked it too Slomoe!! Give Crank a watch, it's freaking crazy. 8-) Quote
slomoe Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Yea, I've seen Crank. Its a great movie for folks with A.D.D. ;D Quote
TheBeast Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 The Bucket List-- Absolutely great film. This is hands down gonna be in the top 3 best for the year. Of course how can you go wrong with Jack and Morgan Freeman. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I hate Dane Cook, beginning to hate Jessica Alba. At least there were plenty of chesticles and Dan Fogler was a riot. When are people gonna realize that Dane Cook is not funny. Just because you talk and act like a teenage girl and flail your arms around like an idiot doesn't make what you say funny. Anyway, a movie I've always loved is Cable Guy with Jim Carrey. He, unlike Dane Cook, IS hilarious ;D Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 8, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2008 Of course how can you go wrong with Jack and Morgan Freeman. How could you go right with them? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 19, 2008 Sunshine - Danny Boyle needs therapy. Or a lobotomy. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 A GREAT movie to watch with your family is "The Ultimate Gift", but keep the Kleenexes handy. You've been warned, toughguys!! :'( It's a good family movie Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 2, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 2, 2008 The Lookout - A good watch, if for no other reason than Isla Fisher. Neighbors - What the hell were Ackroyd and Belushi thinking? :-/ Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 2, 2008 Super User Posted March 2, 2008 Ahhhh yes forgot all about this. The past couple weeks I watched all the nominees for Best Picture. I would rate them .... 1. No Country For Old Men - reminded me a lot of Fargo 2. Juno - kind of a more serious Napoleon Dynamite 3. There Will Be Blood - kind of slow, but Daniel Day Lewis was very good 4. Atonement - slow chick flick 5. Michael Clayton - even slower until the end Quote

I honestly wish someone would shove Dane Cook and Ryan Reynolds into a rocket, and shoot it straight at the sun. Those are two I definitely could do without. Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Michael Clayton- watched this weekend, I have to agree it is kinda slow until the end, but its not bad. Good flick in my opinion. American Gangster- Denzel shines again. Has some boring parts, but not many, I really liked it. The Departed- Love it. Great flick. Leo, Damon, Jack, enough said. Lucky Number Sleven- Great movie!!! I know it is pretty out there at first, I didnt really know why I was watching the movie, it was really confusing, but then there is a point towards the end where it all comes together, and your like holy @#$%, this is a great movie. Then you'll watch it again, and peice the whole thing together, and say holy @#$% great movie. Give it a watch, untl the then end of the movie, you wont be sorry. Quote
slomoe Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 American Gangster- Denzel shines again. Has some boring parts, but not many, I really liked it. I agree. I watched it this weekend and thought it was...well....very gangsterish. I love movies like this, and to think it was based from true events. I also watched 30 days of night. Pretty freaky vampire movie about Americas northern most town in Alaska that for one month of the year gets no sunlight. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 5, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 5, 2008 Planet Terror - The Machete faux-trailer is worth the watch. But really, who doesn't love a good zombie flick? Quote
Fisher of Men Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The Gameplan - Please Dwayne, no more family films!!!! quote] I actually thought "The Gameplan" was OK. My daughter wanted to watch it and I found it much better than other movies that she is interested in. Quote
slomoe Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Planet Terror - The Machete faux-trailer is worth the watch. But really, who doesn't love a good zombie flick? sounds like they are going to make the movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985694/ i can't wait Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 The Breach - best movie I've seen since The Illusionist. It's about the biggest spy ever to work within the FBI. He sold millions (maybe billions) of dollars worth of classified information to the Russians, and was responsible for the execution and uncovering of many American spies and military operatives. The acting was excellent, storyline excellent - everything was excellent. I highly recommend this movie, especially if you're into espionage. Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 x2 on the breach, great flick, true stuff. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted March 14, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2008 25th Hour - I despise Spike Lee, but this wasn't a bad watch. I detest Ed Norton, but he turned in a good performance, as did PSH and Pepper. Anna Paquin... Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I saw a couple more movies in the last week. American Gangster - thought it was pretty good, nothing great. Denzel is obviously the man in any movie he does, but I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if I hadn't just watched a tremendous movie right beforehand... Gone Baby Gone - thought it was fantastic. There were some really good twists, and I really liked the moral dilemmas it presented to the audience, and the changing attitudes I had towards different characters throughout the movie. Is a moral act based on following strict principles regardless of the outcome, or is it permissible to break the rules, so to speak, to achieve a more desirable outcome? I was a philosophy major, so I really enjoy thinking about moral dilemmas 3:10 to Yuma - thought it was ok, nothing special. Just not a very believable end to the movie. Yeah, yeah, he can escape from prison, but let's get serious. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 25th Hour - I detest Ed Norton, Really? I think he's one of the very few best actors in the business today. I've never seen a movie of his I didn't like. Speaking of Ed Norton, does anyone know the name of the movie with him and Richard Gere where Gere is a lawyer and there's a huge twist in the end? I want to see it again but don't know the name. Thanks. Quote

I want to see it again but don't know the name. Thanks. Primal fear. That is an excellent movie imo! That movie kept me going up until the very end. I was completely shocked. I agree with Tokyo, I think Ed Norton is a little underlooked and one of the greats of our time. Quote

It was very slow throughout and did not progress much in the end. I like a little more action in my dramas. Does that make sense? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 The worst part of Michael Clayton was the Perry Mason ending where everyone just capitulates. Man, the finish just left me flat. A total waste of time as far as I was concerned. > Quote
