Olebiker Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 These are the lyrics to a song called Anyway by The Roches: People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway Quote
slomoe Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 My family has a saying that was started by my great grandmother whom I've never met. My mother tells me storys about when my great grandparents used to take in homeless people and cook for them. the saying goes "Eat what ya can, what ya can't, can (throw away)" Then it evolved into "Eat what ya can, what ya can't, Sam (Great grandpa) can" It reminds me to be humble and try to help others in need whenever possible. razyrsharpe Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 From Justice Robert Jackson (Chief of Counsel for the U.S. at the Nuremburg Trials) in his opening statement to the court. November 21, 1945 "May it please your honors, The privilege of opening the first trial in history for the crimes against the peace of the world imposes a grave responsibility. The wrongs which we seek to condemn and punish have been so calculated, so malignant, and so devastating that civilization cannot tolerate their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated. That four great nations, flushed with victory and stung with injury stay the hand of vengeance and voluntarily submit their captive enemies to the judgement of the law is one of the most significant tributes that Power has ever paid to Reason." these are some of the most powerful and eloquent words i have ever heard. thought i might share them.
