Darn gas prices, I got siphoned!

As if it wasn't bad enough to sustain hail damage and a broken windshield Friday night, my gas tank was siphoned!  

So after I'll be having to pay for the insurance deductible for body work  - $500

and a new windshield -since commercial insurance has no glass coverage- $250

and a tank of gas that was siphoned, thankfully it was only about half full - $50

And last but not least, I had to go buy a new locking gas cap for the truck - $18

What a weekend... I didn't even get to fish.   :-/

wow.....i'm not surprised.Prices are getting so bad that now people are stealing gas.

People with gas cards be very cautious around the pumps.Thieves are trying to steal the numbers here.I overhear a kid talking about it.

Looks like a locking cap is going on both of our cars soon too!

I've been meaning to buy a locking cap for my truck for the last year.  I'm quite surprised that neither my truck or boat have been struck (or sucked).

Hey Keith,

If your truck is not at least 20 years old, chances are, there is (should say was) a spring or seive in the filler tube that prevents siphoning. Which means it's now broken and pieces of it can/may be in your tank. Thieves would have to break it to get a hose into the tank. The broken pieces can damage the fuel gauge and/or pump) if it's electric and mounted in the tank. Not all vehicles have these, but it is pretty common. The best way to find out is from someone who has the same truck. Of course, if you have ever siphoned from your own tank (for the lawn mower or boat) the answer is clear.

Just thought I would cheer you up. Sorry, I know it's not funny, but you should check on it as you make your repairs. I have great disdain for thieves. Really sorry for your circumstances.

Now that you mention it, I've never seen the springs on this particular truck (2002 GMC) and I am the original owner.  Hmm....  I have seen similar things on other vehicles though.  I'll have to ask about that.

Unfortunately...This is going to be a bigger problem in the near future.I have already been reading the stories in my local paper.

I work part time at a small gas station.Went out to check our levels the other night and found the lock broken on the unleaded.The would be theif must have gotten scared away or discovered he couldnt draw the gas.

Makes me wonder if one of these idiots would be dumb enough to try to pound the lock with a rock or other metal object.They would go to heaven real quick ;D

Unlike the gas thieves of the 70's when I was hit several times, these days they are also punching holes in the gas tanks to get at the gas faster and with less hassle.

the state patrol busted a guy the other day here for a drive off.  THe dufus stole $10 worth of gas.  Drive offs are getting more common.

My neighbor had his 5 gallon gas tank stolen this weekend.  It had just been filled and it was sitting in the bed of his truck while he was mowing in the back yard.

Someone around here stole a whole tankful one night. Not a car tankful, but they drained the gas station tank. They had stolen a tanker and pulled up to one of those fully automated stations late one day and pumped it out. I'm sure any bystanders thought they were making a delivery. Fortunately they got caught.

I'm afraid to say that this, along with ALL theft is going to get worse. We live in one of the best neighborhoods in town and last fall, two cars were stolen and several gas tanks siphoned. There's no one I detest worse than a thief. Get a job like the rest of us!! >

I have a nice gun that will put the siphone on any thief that may visit me. He had better hope he can get away with my gas before I unload the whole banana clip on his *** which I highly doubt will happen. I can gaurantee there family a closed casket funeral for them. I shoot first and reload for another round I don't ask questions before or after.
