Super User burleytog Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 kneecap. $3.469 for regular unleaded here now. Cost me $50 to fill up my wife's car yesterday, wasn't that long ago that I could fill that thing up for $30. I foresee a lot of 50 acre fishing in my future. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 I see a 9.9 hp Evinrude in my future....put 20 gallons in the boat and filled up the Tahoe last night. That was the most money I've ever dropped at a convenience store without bringing home any beer. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Yup, the "Little Boats, Big Fish" club is gonna get a little bigger this yr Quote
daviscw Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I remember my dad breaking $110 last year to fill up his 3500 Duramax! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 Yup, the "Little Boats, Big Fish" club is gonna get a little bigger this yr That is a true statement right there. I ran out all 20 gallons today plus what was in there already.....back to the gas station in the a.m. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted April 19, 2008 That was the most money I've ever dropped at a convenience store without bringing home any beer. I feel your pain. We dropped $150 in GA last month to fill up the truck and fill one tank on the boat. Times like these make me glad my boat only has a 12 gallon tank. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 This is getting ridiculous....I've canceled my fishing trips to lake erie,st. clairs and detroit river till further notice now. Almost got laid off as well today....I feel bad for the ones who did today at work. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I think I'm gonna start fishing closer to the launch ramp. boy am I glad the lakes up here are small lol Quote
Popeye Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I've been averaging around $50 per tankful here in So Cal on each of our 2 cars and my Explorer for the past 2 months and that's at the Exchange gas station. My wife filled her Camry last night on the way home from work and it came to a little over $54.00. Guess some OPEC ****** will be able tp put more Rolls Royces behind their many palaces!! Better get my butt back in cycling shape so I can start riding my bike to work if necessary. Good thing I carpool to work with my neighbor. That keeps my Explorer sitting in the driveway until I use it for fishing trips and Otay is only about 15 minutes away. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 Thank God I have a dock to fish from.....I see the amount of brushpiles dropped in US lakes quadrupling this year. ;D Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 Hey guys, We get our mosf of our oil from Canada and Mexico. Big oil field just found in North Dakota and drilling has begun. Only 2,000 acres are needed to hit the big oil in Alaska. And if fishing is our only vice then it is money well spent. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 Yup, the "Little Boats, Big Fish" club is gonna get a little bigger this yr I'm already on the hunt. Why drag the 18 1/2 footer to 9.9hp/electric limited or no-wake lakes? I've been scanning roadsides, craigslist, etc. I'm finding myself as excited about buying some old 14 ft semi-V and fixing it up as I was about getting a new fiberglass rig. I must have a screw loose or something. Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 My dad is giving me his 75hp powered 17ft monarch this summer (unless he changes his mind) That little boat is economical enough I guess with that 4 stroke on it. I've canceled all hopes of owning a high power glas rig until they come up with an engine that is more economical. Maybe make one that runs off of luck or good looks ;D Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 I have a 15' jon boat with a 15hp 4 stroke. I can fish all day long and cover a lot of ground on half of my 3 gallon tank . Getting the boat 30 miles to and from the lake in my Silverado is the other problem. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 Guys I feel for you all with the big boats and big haulers. Spending that kind of money just to get on the water would kill my enthusium for fishing. Quote
rondef Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I was regretting not buying a bass boat (Nitro, Ranger or Tracker) with a nice size outboard. Now I am glad I bought my 16 foot Lowe V-Hull with a 25hp outboard I can make 5 gallons last a few weeks where we fish on the Potomac. I can only imagine how much I would have been spending if I bought what I had really wanted. It kind of funny how thigs work out. Quote
TheBeast Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Yep Burley, I guess we are blessed to have an bundance of small lakes around us that we won't be spending a fortune on gas to get to them and using no gas in the boat. Makes that 14' jon i got a couple months back that much nicer. Also that place I went and checked out yesterday evenin, 5 big ponds all right in one area and fish in all of'em. Quote
Popeye Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Maybe I'd better KEEP my NuCanoe after all:o) Quote
Big T Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Filled the wife's car up Tuesday night, Gas was $3.44 a gallon, Wednesday morning the same station was at $3.39, Thursady morning it was $3.43 a gallon. Luckly my wife works 2 miles from the house and I am only using a tank every two weeks in my Nissan Xterra. I can fill my john boat up and a tank will last almost half the summer. The lake I fish isn't very big and I do not run fast because of stumps. Saltwater trips use more gas but those are few and far between. > Big T Quote
brgbassmaster Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 ya 26 gallon tank in the tundra pretty sucky. gas is 3.42 a gallon here right now. its about $35 fill up my wifes saturn, and like $92 to fill up my truck, but i wait until it gets to half to fill it up everytime cuz i get scared i might go crazy to fill it up from empty. i was looking on mapquest like 3 days ago at cheapest gas and there was still places where it was 2.80 on the east coast lucky son of a guns. boat is 12 gallons good thing my buddy has agreed to pay half for gas. this is the times im glad the military doesnt lay off people. moby bass Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I posted this link a while back on a previous thread about gas prices. http://www.californiagasprices.com/price_by_county.aspx Quote
Pond Hopper Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 9 Miles and I can be to my honey holes, 15 and I can be on some small lakes, and having a small 2 man boat with a trolling motor helps but that does not mean I like it. > Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 And just to think, my wife wants me to sell my Aluminum Triton with the 90hp...... I think I'll keep it for a while. I may not be faster than the other boats in the tournament but I am spending less money to get there. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 On the trip to Guntersville, Speedbead and I calculated the Bassbus burns about $1 worth of gas every 2 1/2 minutes. 36 hours to Guntersville round trip. As much as I love the Bassbus, if the gas prices don't moderate, it will be impractical for me to keep it. On the boat side of things, my 16' aluminum V has 3 TMs and gets great mileage. Quote
