Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 I like scaly critter, too. Not only do I have some herp pets, I'm a herper, too. Love going out to look for snakes. Here are my snakes - an Eastern King Snake named "Shadow" and a Corn Snake named "Snowflake" - don't ask, my kid named them. If were up to me, they'd be called "snake A" and "snake B." Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 Its about that time of yr too yall i seen a few water snakes already no kings yets i have a pic of a 7 foot black rat snake somewhere i caught him about 6 yrs ago kept him a while then let him go on a 450 acre farm that aint turning into a development i may go there and see if he is still around Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 I found this 7+ ft black rat snake last year under some piles of tin on some land adjacent to a farm. I had seen him there before, and I've seen him there again this year. He is the most docile wild snake I've ever caught. This is the only picture I have that shows the girth on this snake. In this pic, he's lying on my shoulder. I'm 6'4' and 300 lbs and he looks big on me. He's a big boy. I suspect he's living well on squirrels and other big critters. Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 Here's another black rat I found this spring... Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 Yup same size as mine his body was big as my forarm and i got big forarms his head was 3 inches wide i weighed him in a 5 gallon bucket and he was about 13 lbs like u say very gentle snakes seems the bigger the more gentle smaller rat snakes like to do a show the first time caught but tame down really fast Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 You're right, the bigger they are, the more docile they are. And here is one that I caught in the water while fishing last summer. It has an eye cap that had not been shed, and a mite infection. I kept him for about a week and treated him for the mites, and treated the eye until the eyecap shed. I brought him home in my cooler. I think he thought he was a cobra. Gorgeous snake, though... Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2008 Super User Posted April 20, 2008 Here's a close up of his good side... Quote

Bassnbrett101 Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I used to have a leopard gecko, anoles, a house gecko, and a whole bunch of firebellied toads and newts. I also catch any wild amphibians and lizards I can find when I'm out. I think they're really interesting. I was thinking about going into herpetology but decided against it. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 21, 2008 Super User Posted April 21, 2008 hey micro do u catch amphipians also,, id like to catch a hellbender .You ever seen any on your adventures??? Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 21, 2008 Super User Posted April 21, 2008 After finding A bassresource member on a bearded dragon forum I was just curious to see how many other members have any reptiles or amphibians? Not any more, but there used to be a time when I owned mudpuppies, dart frogs, fire toads, various species of turtles, a couple of boas, king sankes, several pythons ( ball pythons were my favorites ), lizards and monitors. Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 22, 2008 Super User Posted April 22, 2008 Yeah, I occassionally look for amphibs, too. Usually early spring. I've seen hellbenders, but I never seem to have my camera when I do because I'm not out herping when I find them. And I've always found them by accident. I dopn't have too many amphib photos since it's only a minor area of interest. Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 22, 2008 Super User Posted April 22, 2008 I came across a vast flooded area last spring that was just filled with frog eggs. Within weeks the entire area had dried up and all the eggs were lost... Quote

guitarkid Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Sometimes I come across other interesting critters... I did not think those were in Virginia. You must be from the lower part of the state, or somewhere. BUT before I moved to South Carolina I used to live in Stafford. -searoach Quote
Other. Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 What you do Micro actually looks fun. Taking pictures of animals like that. I might do that one day in a state park along the creek. I'm sure I will come across many animals not just herps that I can take a picture of with out disturbing them. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 22, 2008 Super User Posted April 22, 2008 No picks, but in college I had two ball pythons named Lucy and Lucifer. Tried everything to get them to breed, but to no avail. Would love to get my hands on a pied ball python or a spider pattern one, but they are bit too expensive Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I used to have a green snake and a box turtle. I had the snake for about 2 years but eventually we couldnt keep him any longer so we let him go. I had the turtle for about 3 weeks but we decided to let him go too Quote
