I've grown extremely tired of my current job and loathe every second I spend while at work. BassResource takes up a good portion of my time during the day, but that's only because I guerrilla-surf when the boss isn't looking. The rest of my work day is spent finding new ways to hate my job even more. I need to get back outside. I used to be a land surveyor, and I also painted houses for two years, and both those jobs were rad because I got to be outside all the time. F this being inside all day crap. Part of the reason I love fishing so much is because I'm outside enjoying nature. I'm headin back to nature. /end rant.

You'll get one break which is 20 minutes for lunch,then the rest of the time you'll be sweating grease monkey and coming home smelling like oil and hydraulic fluid. What is it? Slitter operator. Slitting 30,000-60,000 pound coils...not to mention if something goes wrong you can bet serious injuries or even death.This is the only job i've have where i seen more minor and some major injuries happen.I pray everyday to make it through work safe and back home again. All i'm saying is be grateful you have a job,Jobs are hard,hard,hard to come by right now here. for all the young kids out there...STAY IN SCHOOL!

Don't feel bad , every one does it once in a while. If you don't like your job , you're not going to like your life.

Masshole Mike Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 Don't hate the job....hate the people. that's exactly it, i hate the people. not the ones i work with, they're ok for the most part, but i deal directly with the public and that's the part i can't stand. it's not even that my job is hard, i stand behind a counter on a computer all day, it's just that i hate being here. oh, and i make crap for money. i know there's much worse out there, but there's much better, as well. i started looking on careerbuilder.com today, luckily my resume is up to date and i've got a couple letters of recommendation from previous employers. i've never left a job on bad terms and all my previous bosses have always said "if you ever need a good word, or even your job back, let me know" so that's always good.

Hey Mike.....not sure you would want my job.....I'm behind a desk all day and I'm the only guy in the office, all my co workers are women (none of them are great looking either.....boy is that shallow like I'm any prize). ;D

I looked on careerbuilder.com for a job for 5 months and never got a call back. I have a bachelors degree in Management Information Systems and never got a call back. Look locally you will have much better luck.

If you want to really find out how to properly hate a job, sit in the back of an M2A3 bradley for 18 hours in 140degree weather with 6 other dudes. Don't forget to add 70lbs of gear and water that gets hotter than fresh coffee. And remember, no air conditioners allowed!!

Dude I am in the same boat as you, I am a machinist apprentice (still in school). One little mistake and you can lose a finger, hand, or worse. By the way,400 degree Lathe chips hitting your arm is not that fun. -searoach

I'm an apprentice wireman for the IBEW and I love it. I've been doing electrical work for the last 4 years and have no complaints at all. Its a good trade to get into. Always need electricians!

Yeah, I just don't think I can get paid as much as I do now as an apprentice. I was thinking about taking night classes to get certified, but still don't know if I would get paid enough starting out with no work experience. I took a class in high school and really liked it.

And remember, no air conditioners allowed!! that will certainly fix your desire to get outside... but seriously... some folks LIVE for that stuff... me not so much... I am a mechanic... I have fixed everything from a Hummer to an M1 if it rolls I have worked on it for the most part... I honestly can say the Army has been good to me... the deployments suck buttermilk but for the most part its a VERY rewarding choice for 4 years or 20... just remember you can't start out being a leader.. you have to be led first.. so yes you WILL get told what to do.. LOL AL
Masshole Mike Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 or better yet i think i'll just move to a remote african shanty village and live in squalor for the rest of my life, eating bugs and trash and whatever else i can scrounge up, using my clothes as rags to wash myself, then putting them back on to wear for the day.... then at least 18 hours in the back of a M2A3 bradley would be like a vacation, am i right? i'm not trying to say my job is tough, if you read my original post i actually said it's pretty much a piece of cake. i also said that i know there are others out there that have it far worse than i ever will. i was merely trying to state that in my current occupational situation, i am not happy. continue on with your "the army will toughen you up" speeches though, you guys can keep that stuff. i mean no disrespect by that, either. the army is something that i could never do, but i have the highest respect for those that can.
Brian_Reeves Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I can understand how being cooped up inside all day could drive you crazy or make you unhappy. That's one of the reasons I joined the army lol. I was in a similiar situation. The only problem is that I went from one extreme (mindnumbing boredom) to the other (friggin combat). I think I have finally learned that I will be happiest where I can be outside a little bit without getting shot at or being miserable. I actually think that I'd rather live in a remote african shanty village than sit 18 hours a day in Middle East heat in a Bradley. Let me try to paint the picture for you. First off, you're wearing an Interceptor Body Armor with MOLLE system. With your ammo, water, grenades, plates, and helmet, I'll call it about 60-75lbs. Now you have to fit on a bench that was designed for 3 grown men to barely fit without gear. Well...they have gear on too, so your crammed in there with no leg room. Overhead, there isn't enough room for you to move your head. If you're 6ft tall (like me) then you will have to tilt your head in order to fit in the back. So you're mildly uncomfortable and weighted down, no big deal. Ramp up....now things get bad. It's dark. The only available light comes from periscopes that are about 3inches by 6 inches. Most of the time these are covered up so it is nearly pitch black. It's loud. I mean like rocket ship taking off loud. Metal is slamming pavement and rattling against itself creating a ruckus that is painfully loud. Put earplugs in. That helps a little. It vibrates. Not a good vibration either. Jarring your $%^&ing brains out vibrating. If you lean your helmeted head against any piece of metal, it feels like your head is moving faster than a jigsaw blade. We didn't cover the heat yet. You can have a bottle of water, fresh out of the refridgerator. In 30minutes, you could make coffee with it. It burns when you drink it, so you don't wanna drink. But if you don't, you die. The body armor keeps moisture locked into your body, meaning that your sweat makes you hotter by acting like an insulator rather than cooling you down. Your hands have gloves over them and your pants are tucked into your boots. Heat can only get out at one place, and that's at your neck. So your own body heat drifts up into your face. This is just in the first hour. By the 5th hour, you look like you jumped into a swimming pool. If the bradley crew would let the ramp down, you probably run the risk of going into shock. There is at least a 20 degree difference between the back of the bradley and outside and it's 130 outside. 150 easy in the back of the brad...maybe more. At this point you're drinking water that is burning the taste buds off of your tongue but you need probably a gallon each hour just to maintain. The humidity from sweat evaporating is making it stuffier and hotter. Muscles are cramping up and joints are stiffening. Your weapon is painful to the touch. At least in an African shanty I have leg room and air circulation. Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't wanna be there either.

Not feeling the love. ;D I actually like my job but as a few people said, it's other people that screw it up by not doing their job. Plus they give me crap for being a Yankee fan. Being a CT boy who moved to NH I never realized until I got up here how much bitterness the fans of, how shall we say...historically less successful teams, foster towards me and my kind. I never played that game and I still don't cause good ball is good ball but when they try to push my buttons I get to remind them that I'm the boss. ...sorry for the mini hijack. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
