Super User .dsaavedra. Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 hey all you metallica fans (i know there are a few ) what do you guys think about the St. Anger album? i personally like it a lot. it is so much different than any of their previous albums but different doesnt equal bad. i will admit, at first i thought it sounded like trash, but after listening to it a few times it has really grown on me and i like this album a bunch. the songs are very catchy and the lyrics are deep! anyway, what are your thoughts? tipptruck1 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I have owned it for a few years now. I still cant decide if its good. Give me there first four albums any day. And justice for all is my favorite. Thats was before lars started sueing people and metallica sold out. I heard they have a new cd on the way this summer. They said they went back to there roots. Didn't they say what about St. Anger? Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 Sorry Dave, but after the Black album they pretty much have been on a downward spiral and anger is a total joke piece of turd.I took it to two different used cd shops and they didnt want it since they had a whole stack already collecting dust on the shelf. Everyone has different opinions on music though.Nothing wrong with that. BTW its still pretty cool that you are a Metallica fan. Quote
MyKeyBe Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Sorry Dave, but after the Black album they pretty much have been on a downward spiral... x2 And Justice For All was the last great album and Black was the last decent one. Quote
TI_Bassin Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I've tried to like there new stuff but in my opinion anything that they made that wasn't co-written with Cliff Burton is just , so anything after And Justice For All I could do without. I hope there new album goes back to there roots like they said but like mentioned before they said that about St. Anger. Quote
WTRDOG Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Kill Em' All Master of Puppets Ride the Lightening And Justice For All... After these albums Metallica went down hill , became to commecialized, and have never been the same.... Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 Metallica stopped being Metallica after the Black Album. I don't remember where I read this but it was directed at them. "Don't cut your hair and sell out." Quote

You do realize that Cliff was already dead when they started writing ...And Justice For All, right? but i must agree, Justice is a stellar album. definitley my second fav. behind Load. Quote
WTRDOG Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 definitley my second fav. behind Load ...Load of crap... ;D Quote
Yakfish Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Kill Em' All Master of Puppets Ride the Lightening And Justice For All... After these albums Metallica went down hill , became to commecialized, and have never been the same.... Yep. I think it was the video of "One" that started them down the path. I do like Turn The Page and Nothing Else Matters but everything else was a HUGE disappointment. This sell out was not as bad or unexpected as The Stones selling out to Cadillac and Dennis Hopper (I don't understand?) plugging some financial planning outfit but I digress... :'( Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted April 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted April 9, 2008 what is really great about their later works (st. anger especially) is the emotion that hetfield puts into the lyrics. in the earlier stuff, he had mainly a higher, faster pitched tone that didnt vary much. but in the later albums, he had more emotion and the lyrics are more powerful. IMO. but i dont care what anyone says, i love all the albums from Kill 'Em All to St. Anger . Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted April 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted April 9, 2008 nice belt ;D Quote

JayW Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Sorry Dave, but after the Black album they pretty much have been on a downward spiral... x2 And Justice For All was the last great album and Black was the last decent one. Couldn't have been said better! St Anger blows! Quote
John J. Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Yeah St. Anger was not a good album. I agree with what has been said about "Kill 'em all" through "..and justice for all" and the Black Album was better. They still sing well, even though they are in the late 30s early 40s. Here's their concert at rock am ring in Germany 2006: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4361513763655744668&q=metallica+rock+am+ring&total=425&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 Quote

Yakfish Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Glad I saw them in '89 before the wheels fell off....... Same here. I saw them on their And Justice For All tour. Sound system was terrible (proof that they hadn't sold out yet) and chunky teenage girls in lingerie outnumbered the headbangers at least 3 to 1 but they were great. I wonder what a crowd looks like these days? Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I like the album - not one of my favs from them but is a very good album. With that said though, Lars' snare drum sounds like he was using an aluminum trash can. Its horrible. Very hard for me to listen too and truly enjoy with that "dead clank" for a snare drum - especially on St. Anger, Some Kind of Monster, and, Invisible Kid. Just my $0.02. Quote
