Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 After over 30 years in the ring, 16 title reigns, the Nature Boy will be wrestling his last match (for now) this Sunday at Wrestlemania 24. He just cut one of his best promos of the last 10 years. Hopefully he just doesn't disappear (although I think his retirement will be a lot like Terry Funk's, very short). The current state of wrestling doesn't lend itself to managers, but Flair would make a great Weasel. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I always wondered why wrestling didn't have a mag at the checkout, right between Soap Opera Digest and the Enquirer??? But yea,...considering what a physical version of bad acting it is, that's a long run. Quote
Popeye Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Ric Flair - saw him wrestle here in San Diego years ago when I took my daughters who loved to watch all the Wrestlemanias on Thanksgiving Day. WOOOOOOOOOOOO! Quote
bassdocktor Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I think that he'll start working behind the scenes much like IRS or Slaughter. I can't see him up and leaving after this long. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 The only time I was ever into wrestling was back during Superstar Billy Grahams short run in the sport. He was a wrestler that was way ahead of his time and probably the guy most responsible for the way wrestling looks today. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 25, 2008 I think that he'll start working behind the scenes much like IRS or Slaughter. I can't see him up and leaving after this long. I don't see Flair becoming a road agent. Like I said, if the current environment was more conducive to managers, he'd be a perfect fit ala Freddie Blassie in the 80s. I liken Flair's career to that of Blassie's. They were both the same type of worker, Blassie's only problem (and Flair's for the most part) was that he worked in a limited area (California) and didn't get a great deal of exposure in other territories. 20 years ago Flair was in the same boat. After the WWF Rock & Wrestling explosion in the mid 80s, Flair and the NWA/WCW was but an afterthought. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 He could always do "on the scene" reporting for "E" ;D Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 Coming Soon: Flair Knows Best ;D Quote

Big T Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Ric Flair was always one of my favorites. I saw him numerous times during the old NWA days at Legion Stadium. When his plane crashed in 1974, my Grandparents lived less than 3-4 miles from the crash site. My grandfather was one of the first people on site to volunteer to help. Wilmington was a very small town at the time and ILM airport was nothing more than a landing field. I also got a chance to meet him a local sporting goods store in the 90's, he was a big dude even then. Big T Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I remember when I used to watch wrestling when I was young, goldberg was the man. What ever happened to him??? I remember watching wrestling with my Granddad when I was little and Ric Flair was the man! He was on with Blackjack Mulligan, Wahoo McDaniel, superfly, Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat and The Amreican Dream Dusty Roads. Amazing he is still wrestling. Say what you will about wrestling, but those guys are good atheletes. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 25, 2008 At Wrestlemania we might just hear the last...WOOOOOOOOOOOO! Like I said, it will be the last...for a while. IMO Rick is exactly like Terry Funk in that he just can't walk away. Terry Funk has retired about 15 times over the last 15 years. Quote
fishbear Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Flair is an icon in Wrestling. I can remember him wrestling when I was a small kid, watching with my dad. I can still remember his battles with Terry Funk, A very young Sting, and others.. then came the 4 Horsemen. Wow, talk about some old memories... Quote
