Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm not talking about these first post scam job guys, but the people who post things with a price that may be a little higher than you'd expect. Wouldn't it be better to notify someone by PM, than to out them in plain view? I'm all for protecting our members from a bad deal, but on the other hand, I'm also for allowing sellers to have a for sale thread that isn't littered with posts on how perspective buyers can undercut them. Just my take. I figured it was time for me to rant a little. What do you think? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted April 4, 2008 Super User Posted April 4, 2008 Wouldn't you want to know if you could get the same product at a less expensive price? I don't think it can be called a DEAL unless BOTH parties make out. Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 It's a mixture of things. A couple of times, long time members were trying to get the high end of a fair price for an item , that BPS or Cabelas had on sale for lees or the same mney, I pm'd them to give them a heads up. A few times there were out and out badd offers being made by first time posters and some of the kids were asking about the product so i asid something to call attention to it one the thread, maybe I was out of line, I don't know. Didnt want to see a kid getting taken advantage of I get a lot of stuff off that forum and have only been , well not burned but the item was not what was stated, the gentleman though made good by taking the item back Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Again, I am for notifying the seller of their pricing issues, but I think that the PM is the proper vehicle in this situation. Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Yeah muddy man, I guess there are certain instances where, like you mentioned, it would be appropriate to make mention of it in the thread itself. It's all about the kids Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I hope no one interfered with you it's guys like you,Pond Hopper Cart 7,Glenn and Five Bass Limit that put up quality stuff, often understated and for fair prices. Quote
FishingBuds Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I don't think it can be called a DEAL unless BOTH parties make out. HEY! whats going on here ;D Quote
10_More_Minutes Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Google has a nice little " product search results " anytime I see something posted in a forum I would be interested in I do my research. Google it, check BPS, check Cabelas, h*ll check Walmart if you have to. Sellers and/or buyers may not be aware the item they are selling is discounted somewhere. So a PM to a seller or buyer is a great idea, I'm sure the price would be adjusted. Do your homework folks. I would like to think most fishermen/women are being as honest as possible, just uninformed or unaware the item can be gotten cheaper new. See I have this sickness that won't let me part with any fishing gear, but it allows me to buy everything I think I need....or is that want? ;D : ;D Good topic to be discussed. P.S. Got anything for sale? haha Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 5, 2008 Author Posted April 5, 2008 P.S. Got anything for sale? haha Yeah, I have an older model BPS Extreme Woo Daves signature worm rod with 6 inches broken off and retipped at 6 feet, the cork has been sanded down to nothing, and I'm sure the guide inserts are ready to pop out any second now. $475 shipped in a fun-noodle. ;D Quote
dave Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 A good while back a thread ran sort of like this one. Here was the gist: If you come across an item that you are interested in, post. If not, don't. Quote
