Jolicious Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I tried the float-n-fly method a couple days ago, but only for about an hour... No hits, but I did manage to catch a nice sized stick up ;D Seriosuly, though, anyone tried the float-n-fly for largemouth? Quote
Cajun1977 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 ive never tried it for greenies ive always heard it was for smallies Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I read about the Float N Fly during this winter, so i havn't been able to test it out on bass yet. Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was wondering... would using a 4" long 1" wide foam bobber work ok? thanks Matt Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2007 Super User Posted January 15, 2007 Float N Fly is usually thought of as a smallmouth tactic. There was a pretty detailed article in last month's In-Fisherman magazine. Fred McClintock, a well know multi-species guide, contributed to the article. According to Fred, F N F is a technique of "last resort." It's slow, boring and not particularly productive. Quote
wvubassfan Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Alot of guys here in souther Ky fish it. But as said in the previous post it is as a last resort. When we did we would set up the polls with the float and fly and then fish with other lures such as hair jigs or silver buddys. Quote

IneedAnewScreenName-33449 Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 It is primarily used for smallies, but it works just fine on Largemouth's too. Guys, this is a cold-water tactic when bass are extremely lethargic due to low water temperatures. The fly stays in the strike zone longer and usually entices some fish to bite. This tactic works well when all else fails. Quote
