Communication and Consideration

During the Guntersville trip last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the members here. In driving almost 2000 miles with Ronnie (Alpster), I saw and heard how much hard work went into planning a trip of this magnitude. One thing stands out to me as a sour point...

If you signed up to be at Guntersville, you should have been there. If you knew for a fact that you weren't going to be there, you should have communicated that fact (as many did in a timely manner). Even if you would have said an "I dont know for sure right now," at least that would have been something to go on and could have been addressed.

The lack of consideration from GROWN ADULTS amazes me to no end. Hopefully you were not seriously hurt or in a coma, but is it too much to let the coordinators know where you stand?

I felt the same way too Wayne. Maybe on the next one people will have more consideration for the amount of planning that goes into these trips.

BTW, I'm not talking about those of you that cancelled for unforseen reasons, I'm talking about the ones that fell off of the face of the Earth and wouldn't let anyone know if you were going or not.

But a PM is so much work, you can't expect people to... I better quit, I get taken seriously for a lot of not so serious stuff. ...lol

We had a number of people on the Fork trip last year flake out the same way. It is rude at the least.

I was one of these people that all of the above speak of. I greatly apologize to all that I may have put out. I know many of you may not think much of myself as a man, but I hope that you can forgive me and accept my sincere apology. I will no longer make plans of this until I know for sure that I can attend, and I will not involve anyone other than myself if I do make plans.  Once again I sincerely apologize and hope that with time I can be forgiven.

No, JeremyT is right.  He is one of the MANY people I was talking about.  I am glad to see that he stood up and acknowledged this.  So far publicly, he is the only one. That's a good start to me...

Well, I guess I am another one whom you were talking about.

However, I apologized to Ronnie at least twice and to Gene, once.   I truly felt like I could go, however, going to see my sister at the first of the year, before she passed took more out of our budget, than I thought, or planned for.

and to be honest, I thought I had already told Ronnie I was not going.

However, since it seems public apologies are needed, then I offer my apology in public to Ronnie and all the planners.  I can guarantee it will never happen again with me.

I know that it takes a lot of work and effort to plan an event of this size, because I have done something similar, and I would never intentionally cause any grief or hardship on anyone.

Look, let me clarify this....

If PM's were involved and the intent to not go was communicated....this is not directed to you (anyone, not just you Fishbear).

Those that fell off the face of the earth, as was stated earlier, are those I was frustrated with.  I had no part in the planning of this trip, so imagine how the coordinators felt.

The people who feel like they need to apologize for something regarding this trip, please feel free to do so.  If you did everything in your power to keep people informed, then it has nothing to do with you.

I didnt ask any people for public apologies, but I dont think it would hurt IMO

I understand SpeedBead, I set up events for our summer work outings which can average 300+ people, nothen worse thane to have about 2/3rds of them sign up but not show up. hurts money wise.

JimZee, when I have employees not respond AT ALL then they are a NO SIGN UP. This does not mess up finances because we don't count them, we only count those that sign up for it.

If I was to grip about your comment then I would have no one show up.

The Point is they said they were coming, at mid point or so they confirmed they were going and a couple of weeks before the trip they dropped off the radar screen. So things like Banquet fees, that depended on a certain amount showing up, and those of us who out cooked  for 48 and only 30 showed got broadsided at the last minute.
