Lately i have had this sudden urge to start running in the mornings. I was just curious about how many of you run, jog etc. How long do you do it for and how many days a week?

I run a mile every time I have the chance. Of course I do not have the time to do it every day sadly. I run when I get home from school. Helps keep my endurance for parkour that I am getting really starting to enjoy.

I've always loved going for a run, especially first thing in the morning.  It always seems to wake me up and keep me feeling more alert and just healthy!  After the Army I havent been able to go for a run due to knee problems, but I'm looking forward to starting to get a mile or two in a couple times a week this summer.  Give it a try, just make sure you have good shoes or you will be hurting!

I'm a runner!  I've been running for about a year and a half, my longest run being 10 miles.  Some foot problems have kept me off the road for the past couple of months, but I'm gradually getting some miles in again.  I love it.

Last year me and a friend were training for a half marathon. We were going good, but he had college and I had High School and work, so we eventually fizzeld out.

At one point I ran 6 miles at a time. On average we'd run 10+ miles a week. Right now I'll run 1 mile 2-3 times a week after a workout.

Tight Lines ;) 8-)

I used to be an avid runner. I ran cross-country in high school, and eventually accepted a scholarship to run in college. I wasn't a big fan of track, but cross I loved.

CC season mostly takes place in Autumn, which makes it all the nicer. Our season would begin in the late summer, and end in late October; all the while we were able to watch the leaves and our natural surroundings change, as we mostly practiced and competed in parks. Those are some of my fondest memories. The scents were heavenly.

I would like to start.  I used to be a pretty good runner, short distances and long.  I really do think it gives you more energy.  Hopefully I'll get at it this spring if I'm not wetting a line constantly.

I wish I could. I've got bad shin problems. I run for about 8 min and my shins are killing me.

Like I've always said, "If I'm running, you better get a gun and shoot whoever or whatever is after me!" or "If I'm walking, stop and pick me up because my truck's broke down."

Seriously,

I wish I was the kind of person who could run 2-3 miles a day.  I am completely aware of the health benefits, but I just can't get motivated to run for the sake of running.  I don't mind running if I'm engaged in some kind of sport/competition.  Hopefully, after some back surgery in June, I'll be a little more motivated to get active again.

I was doing 25 or more miles  a week  last year this time. School has interrupted my schedule and i'm not in the same shape but i still get in a couple 3 milers a week. I look to pick it up heavy again after I do a whole bunch of papers this week.

I ran 4 miles today... I try and run 5-6 times a week... 3-5 miles at a pop... right now I have to do it ALL on a treadmill because we aren't allowed to run on our own and with my schedule I can't find anyone to run with me... SO I walk to the gym and get my sweat on there... I did just have a PT test and I ran the 2 miles in 13:38 I want to say... might have been 14:38 ... I have to check... but none the less.. that is pretty quick for a guy ALMOST 42... :)  I am a gadget guy.. so I have the nike plus system AS WELL as a garmin forerunner 201 for when I do run outside.. :) help to MOTIVATE ME... over the last month I ran almost 60 miles.. my goal for next month is 70....

just don't start out too hard.. you can really hurt yourself if you push it too hard... I know from experience.

Years ago when I was training for the Las Vegas Marathon I'd run 50 - 75 miles a week (longest training run was around 20 miles if I recollect right). Lost a ton of weight and could eat almost anything I wanted and not gain an ounce!! I fondly remember getting the "runner's high" on several of my longer 10+ mile runs. You have to experience that to believe it!! When it happens you feel like you're floating across the ground. You don't feel the pounding on your body/feet or anything. It is something that every runner should experience. I was addicted to running EVERY day of the week. Then I started doing triathlons and biathlons here in So CA and got hooked on multi-event events. The last real running event I did was the Fontana Days Half Marathon where you are taken to the top of this mountain and the first 7 miles of the run are down the mountain and then it FLATTENS out for the remaining 6 miles. That was the fastest run that I ever did. I really started biking more and more and running less and less. It got to where I was biking 200 - 250 miles a week and not running at all. I still jog 3 - 5 miles on occassion but prefer to bike 20 - 30 miles a workout. I gotta start doing that SOON and lay off the brewskis!!! I also have a great spin bike that I can ride and watch bass fishing shows at the same time!!

I ran/jogged without missing more than a week from my 6th grade year to my sophomore year of college and have completed a marathon and numerous shorter races.  All l have to say are that my KNEES are shot now.

I have a torn meniscus in both knees now and wish I would have been more conscious of the surfaces I ran on.  Running on soft surfaces goes a long way in protecting your long-term knee health.  So if you run, run on soft surfaces and wear shoes with plenty of cushion and support (Go to a local running store and have them due a gait analysis and buy your shoes there, although shoe maybe a little more $$$ it is worth the price of their expertise).

As far as how many days a week, there is no secret formula.  Start out with small (time yourself) and increase the TIME, don't worry about the distance too much. Counting mileage is overrated. Also, remember some days you'll do much better than others so don't get discouraged if you have a bad day or even a bad week.    Good luck and enjoy the RUNNERS HIGH for me

I'm currently training for a Half-marathon (13.1 miles).

Slomoe, Go to a running store (not Foot Locker or Shoe warehouse...a true running store).  Tell them your shins hurt when you run.  They can show you the right running shoe for you.  Kind of like having the right rod and reel combo, you need the right shoe for the way you legs pronate when you run.  Also, they are about the same as you would pay for "running" shoes at Foot Lock, etc.

Getting the right shoe made my shin splints and knees problems go away.

Thanks for the tip. Someone I work with told me the same thing. They put you on a treadmill and watch you run, and suggest a shoe based on what they see.

I will have to check it out.
