ejtaylor822 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Well, my beloved Tar Heels outlasted a scrappy and well coached Clemson team to win the the ACC Tournament (making them the ACC Champion 8-)) - back to back ACC titles. My thoughts heading into the tournament: UNC has a good shot of taking it all. Winning the tournament should set them up as the #1 seed in the East heading into the NCAA tournament. The way the pods/regionals are set up, they would not have to leave the state until the final 4. But, its the NCAA tournament - anything can happen. Clemson is good. Told my family that was in town that Clemson could win this - they are very athletic and well coached. They have been playing very well of late and think they will far in the tournament. Think Kansas and Tennessee will go far and do well - imagine a UNC and Kansas final. Waiting to see the brackets here in a few hours. What is everyone thinking on this year's tournament? Let's start talking it up! Eddie Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 I maybe a little bias .... but I like KU ;D ;D Seriously I think Tennessee is dangerous. Problem is looks like they will be in KU's bracket. :-/ Even though we just beat Texas, I still think they are a FORCE and it looks like they will get to play in Texas should they make it the round of 16. So other than my bias KU opinion, I am looking at Tennessee and Texas to make some noise. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 Georgia just suprised everybody and won the SEC tourney. Â So that's one at large bid gone. Are we going to a BR "Bracket Challenge" this year? Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Just saw the brackets - guess a Kansas and UNC final is out. Â Will make for an interesting final-4 if both make it. KU_Bassmaster, agree, I think Tennessee is dangerous. Â Really did not want to see them in the East. How did Duke wind up a #2 seed in the West playing in Washington, DC? Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 I just set up a bracket group on CBS sportsline for us. If people want to check it out and discuss if we want to use, that's fine - I'm open if there is something else out there better. I checked out a few other sites but this one seemed to have the most features and best performance - some took a while to load the page(s). Let me know what you think. Click the link below (or cut and paste the link into your browser's address bar). You'll be asked to enter the group's password - Our Group password is: fishing http://bassresource.mayhem.sportsline.com/e Here is the points/scoring system: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Weight Bonus First Round: Â Â Â 1 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed Second Round: 2 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed Third Round: Â Â Â 2 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed Fourth Round: 4 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed Semifinals: Â Â Â 4 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed Finals: Â Â Â Â Â Â 8 Â Â Â Â Â Â Add Seed The "bonus" adds the seeding of the winner to the total score - ie, if your #7 seed wins in the fourth round, you get a total of 11 points. Totally open to change the weightings or the bonus. Can chose "nothing" for the bonus, or, multiply seed - #7 pick in the fourth round is 32 points(#7 seed x weight of 4)+weight of 4). The original weighting was (per round) 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32. I changed it thinking the lower weights may keep it more competitive - once again open for any and all suggestions. Post any thoughts or comments on this setup. Eddie Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 17, 2008 Super User Posted March 17, 2008 I'm in!!! BTW - ejtyalor, you might want to change the title of your original thread to let people know there is a pool here now. Â Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Teams I think most dangerous going in: Memphis,UNC,UCLA,Kansas and I think Gonzaga could make a big run here, I love rooting for them. Georgetown.Louisville  and Duke also in the weeds. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 UCLA could play with blindfolds and get to the finals with that bracket! Â Going to be interesting for sure. Â I will participate! Â I LOVE MARCH! Â Wait...I didn't see a missouri team in there did I? Quote

CJ Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Did something happen to Memphis? I haven't had much time to catch up on the teams. I was thinking earlier in the year that there were 3 teams from Tn. that would be a threat. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 pretty sure I saw Memphis in there at dinner tonight. Â Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 the link is blocked from work, but I'm in once I get home! Â I'd love to say my boys at Xavier are making a run, but after losing to St. Joes TWICE in the last week (only 2 losses in their last 16 games) Â I'm not real sure they wont trip over their own feet on the way to the game. Â I have KU over Memphis in the final...we'll see! Quote

HesterIsGod Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Kansas for the win. No, I hate Kansas. I promise you kansas will get knocked out before the final four. I dont care if they have a 25 year old Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Kobe Byrant, Yao Ming, and Shaq on their team, if Self is the coach they will never do anything. Self is one of the best recruiters and one of the worst coaches in college basketball. AS LONG AS THEY HAVE BILL SELF AS A COACH THEY WILL NEVER MAKE THE FINAL FOUR. Remember last year, they made it to the second round and lost to Bradley. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I just joined. I'm rooting for Texas. 8-) Quote

From his NCAA Facts sheet, the offical record: In Bill Self's four seasons as head coach at Kansas he has won three regular-season Big 12 titles and two league tournament championships. He was named the eighth head coach in Kansas basketball history on April 21, 2003. In his 14 seasons as a head coach, Self has compiled an overall record of 312-134 (.700), including a 105-29 (.772) record in his four years at Kansas. He has posted a 16-9 mark in NCAA Tournament play and including 2006-07, has guided his teams to nine-straight 20-win seasons and 10 overall. Self has won seven league crowns in the last nine years, including three straight at KU, with the other two seasons resulting in runner-up finishes. He won his 300th career game at Missouri (92-74) on Feb. 10, 2007. Self is a four-time finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award (2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003), and The Sporting News named him National Coach of the Year in 2000. In addition, Self is one of four coaches in NCAA Division I history to have led three different teams - Tulsa, Illinois and Kansas - to the NCAA Elite Eight. He has advanced Kansas to the NCAA Elite Eight twice, in 2004 and 2007 Quote

Live.2.Fish Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Hey who you looking at as ready and able to do the whole deal? Well, without giving away all my picks before we get started, Â Â this is what I'm thinking: This year I'm liking Memphis, UCLA, NC, and even though I'm not a huge fan of Kansas basketball in March, they look really strong this year and I expect them to make a strong run. Texas also looks like a team that could make a run this year. I'm a big Duke fan, but this year I don't think they have what it takes to win it all. This year Omaha is hosting 1st/2nd round at the Qwest Center, it will be totally crazy here this week. As always, it should be fun to watch it all play out. Kyle Quote
