Garage floor epoxy paint/finish

The house we are renting has had the garage floor painted, but its flaking up BAD, and by the door going to the basement the ripped up carpet that they had glued down, so we have the yellow carpet backing glued to flaking gray paint.  I want to clean it out and put down the epoxy, but how much work goes into cleaning pre-treating and what not before the epoxy goes down?  Thanks guys!

A lot.  I am not a fan of epoxy or paint on concrete floors.  No mater how good it is done it will have to be redone eventually.  Usually well before 10 years.  Why create the maintenance issue when concrete will last 50+ years with no maintenance.

There are a few ways to clean that glue and old paint off.  The best way is to scarify.  It involves a large floor buffer with diamond honing stones on the bottom.  It physically scrapes away a thin layer of concrete.

I figured it would be a pain, I just thought the epoxy would be nice for easy cleanups after changing oil and things like that.  I hate when the concrete is stained under the car from dripping fluids.  May not be worthe the trouble of cleaning an old floor, but I think its great on newly laid concrete.  thanks for the info

That's what cardboard is for! ALOT cheaper.

I did my garage floor with the paint chips.  You can get the kit from home depo.  Came out nice and was EASY/  Glad I did it.

Unless you're renting with the option to buy I'm not sure why you'd bother to go through the amount of work and expense needed to strip off and redo the floor.

We have made arrangements with the owner to purchase the home within one year, and all upgrades will be deducted from the sale price.

i used to work with a concrete finisher when i needed extra cash. i have used the machine you are talking about, and it is an extremely dusty/nasty/dirty/ugly job. just buy the kit that bassinblvd is talking about and you will have a sweet looking garage floor.
