Masshole Mike Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 those are some rad pics micro. the quabbin reservoir here in MA has a decent bald eagle population, last time i was there i was able to watch an eagle ****** a fish out of the water, drift over to shore and proceed to devour it's catch. pretty gnarly to see. Super User Micro Posted March 22, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 22, 2008 I'm seeing more and more Bald Eagles every year. I saw two side by side sitting on a piling last year, with a third flying around them. And the number of ospreys is on the rise, too. This is a pic I took in November or December within 100 yards of where I photographed that eagle. Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Pretty cool Micro. We have em at the Chunk here, I will try and get some pics when it gets warm enough for me to go out Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 AWESOME!!! At a lake I fish we found an eagle's nest. It's pretty awesome!!! Also on that same lake there's a beaver dam. It's pretty neat to see that kinda stuff!! 8-) Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 That's funny, I don't remember seeing you yesterday. Nice photos Micro. It's good to see that the eagles are making a comeback. Quote
CJ Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Nice pic, Micro. Yep, I'm seeing more and more every year too! Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Very cool. I have yet to see one in the wild. There are suppose to be some on the local lake here (Jordan) but never seen one. Great pics. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 I don't see how as I didn't go fishing yesterday. Quote
Olebiker Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 We must be doing a few things right. When I was growing up I never saw a bald eagle. Now I see them most every time I go fishing. When I was a kid, alligators were in danger of being hunted out of existence. At one time this morning there were four alligators around my boat. I was raised on a farm, but never saw a deer until I was thirteen. Today, they eat the hydrangeas in my front yard. Quote
Speedy Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 At lock and dam 13 on the mississippi river you can see hundreds of them in the winter. There are nests and everything. It is really cool to watch them fish, but they catch bigger walleye than i do. :'( Quote
Big Al Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Awesome That second pic sent a chill down my spine. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Very cool Micro. RI has 1 pair of nesting Bald Eagles. It was all over the news last year, they closed roads and everything just to protect them during their nesting period. I'm sure the state is very curious to see if any chicks made it through to spring and if they are going to nest again. Very cool. Quote
hjerk24 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Got them here in pa too... OK---- I confess, I took the picture at a zoo...OK!!! I would have gotten away with it , if it wasn't for you meddling kids! Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 Awesome pics man! Quote
fishingrulz Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 If you have never seen an eagle in person its a must see. The best way to describe is like your in the movie Reign of Fire because they have a wingspan of a dragon its insane. My friend has a house upstate and the guy that lives closest to him is the local butcher. He'll cut up your dear, bear, pig w.e So he throws the scraps out on his front lawn and now there are 9 eagles living in the area. Its in Narrowsburg NY, they have Eagle Fest every year. Its a big thing up there where they celebrate the birds come back. They have several nesting pairs in NY state most of which reside in that area. They are an absolute stunning sight to see. Nothing like trying to chasing an eagle on a snowmobile. We also saw one while fishing everything was great, weather, water temp there was bait everywhere but non of us(myself, my friend and his father) Could get a fish for the life of us. So we are about to call it quits when out of no where a giant bird comes diving down skims the water and comes out with what looked to be a good 4-5 pound fish. Talk about bitter sweet. Cool to see the bird but heart breaking to see him get a fish that ive been trying to catch for 5 hours in a span of 15 seconds. I've never even caught a fish above 3#'s. Then he takes it back to a tree and just looks at us like he was rubbing it in our face. ;D ;D Great day, great animal. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Lat year at our club's last tournament I seen a bald eagle fly over the lake and disappear. An hour before that we went into a cove and seen about 8 deer back in there wondering around. It was a very memorable day. Great pics!! Quote
Fish Man Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 we have several that live in my area. last year there was an immature bald eagle in a tree in my front yard and ive seen them flying were i hunt as well. there are also a few ospreys were we fish.
