Super User flechero Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 some random thoughts about this... For those that will or want to hit the delete button manually- you may want to give BR the finger or make some sort of statement but you should tell a buddy or two why you are leaving... if you have a legitimate complaint, they can't fix a problem that no one knows exists. If you get sideways with someone, try extending an apology- who knows, it might have just been a big misunderstanding. Either way, you will probably feel better having made the effort... I have, several times. I've also gained respect for those that have PM'd me along those lines. If it's just that your ego got hurt, well then even better to just walk away for a while and cool off, rather than doing something rash. (you don't get the last laugh anyway) There is a decent size group of people that have come back after hitting the delete button... enough that I think most people regret it later. Remember, there was a reason you spent time here and invested enough emotion to get upset and want to leave... like family, it usually blows over with a little time.
tyrius. Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I don't care who you are, but "ex-membering yourself" just doesn't sound like a good idea at all!!!! ;D
GitRDoneIke23 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Very well said Flechero. Here's my take on it all: I think when you ex-member yourself it's just like giving BassResource.com, the mods, and all of us members a big huge finger! And all it really does is show that you got your precious little feelings hurt and instead of just taking some time off to cool down, you took your toy and went to go play somewhere else. Most of the time it's all because of a misunderstanding. Just take some time to cool off. APOLIGIZE!!! Even if you don't think you're at fault, it will show that you care about the other person and this community. And before you hit that *delete* button, think about it. Don't do something that you'll regret later on. And most importantly: GROW UP PEOPLE!!!! Just my 2 cents. 8-)
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Well said, flechero. Timely too. Any time you get this large a group of people together airing opinions, you're bound to have a few disagreements. It is inevitable. Some times it's part of the fun. And, occasionally it gets out of line. That's probably inevitable aslo. I know I've had my nose out of joint a few times. But never anywhere near bad enough to consider leaving. And I'm sure I've annoyed somebody, some time. It's been my goal lately to refrain from commenting on something that annoys me. Nobody wins a whizzing contest. When it's all over, you're both wet. And you both stink.
Super User Raul Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Weeeelll, I ex-membered myself from another forum while updating my profile, the page even asked if I was shure I wanted to delete and cllicked in the yes box : ....... kinda stoopid if you ask me but ya know, anybody can have a couple of seconds of stupidity during the day.

PaparockArk Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Everyone has the right to have their opinion. Some opinions are constructive while others are not. I deleted my original persona for a reason and I returned for a completely different reason than I originally joined. Everyone has their own reasons for joining and or remaining here. I see no value in berating those that have chosen to leave for reasons not known however.
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Well said, Flechero. Falcon

So now we're going to disparage the character of everyone who deletes their profile just because the site is programmed to display "ex-member" next to their name. Contrary to what some of you may think, there are awesome people in this world who aren't members of bassresource.com and I'm sure there are people who have deleted their profiles who are decent people as well. I don't think we should perpetuate this "ex-member" stereotype any longer.
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 18, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 18, 2008 That's it, I'm deleting you. :
Super User senile1 Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Glenn, thanks for interjecting some humor into this. Guys, I apologize if I came across as hardcore on this. It just seems that we as human beings find all kinds of ways to differentiate ourselves and place ourselves above others by being a member of some group, whether it is a religious group, a political party, a certain race, or a group subscribing to a certain belief system. I like being a member here and I like communicating with all of you, but I'm wary of falling into the trap of thinking poorly of someone who isn't a member of our "little" group here.

Just like in life if you delete your profile others may have a reaction but life goes on.

So now we're going to disparage the character of everyone who deletes their profile Sadly, you guys missed the point and the spirit of the original post completely. I would encourage you to re-read my original post, especially the last few lines. No where did I "berate" or "disparage the character" of anyone, past, present or returned. I'm wary of falling into the trap of thinking poorly of someone who isn't a member of our "little" group here. Would you mind explaining this comment further? If it's in response to anything I wrote, you severely misinterpreted something.

If it's in response to anything I wrote, you severely misinterpreted something. I understood your post completely, Flechero, and I should have clarified that I wasn't responding to your original post. My response was made to the remarks below, which were made by others. I also saw a couple of comments in the Cajun1977 thread that were in the same vein so I was replying to all of those. In fact, I thought that your response in the Cajun1977 thread was appropriate. Super User flechero Posted March 18, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Senile1, Got your PM and sent one back. Thanks for the clarification. Keith
FishingBuds Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I think I can guess who still can't go fishen yet : sometimes you guys go way to deep--for me note, thats just for me, not intended for anyone one else, not saying that you worry about the wrong things, nor am I applying that your feelings are girlish towards one another NOTE this is not what Im saying. all I'm saying is that I can't get that concerned and deep on why someone leaves nor do I get offended by it, if that were the case I guess i would not got married or planned to have kids that keep spending my money and one day leave home > but what Im really tryen to say here is if we was out fishen would we be talking about this? but, if I offended anyone please do not delete yourself, it would be selfish of you not to get back at me ;D but if my spelling offends you please forgive me on that and for that I'am sorrry

If it's in response to anything I wrote, you severely misinterpreted something. No, I agree in general with your post. My reply was to those that accuse others of giving the finger to the forum because they chose to no longer be a part of this forum when those making such public observations have no idea why someone may have chosen to leave. So, sadly please read, the other responses to your original post. No where did I say you "berated" or "disparaged the character" of anyone, past, present or returned. I'm sorry you failed to understand my post as I was trying not to single out people however since you went there I hope I have made it clear for you now.
Gidget Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I just think that most of the time we assume, since we don't really know why, so we guess and of course "assume" there is a negative reason behind it. I don't think any of us should lose sleep over some one ex-membering themselves, I figure I am here that all that matters. JK ;D
Super User cart7t Posted March 19, 2008 Super User Posted March 19, 2008 I guess the ex-member thingie sure beats the "This forum sucks, I'm outa here, yep, you've seen the last of me and I'm not kidding this time, hasta la vista baby, I'm taking my toys and going home" farewell rant threads.

Good point . . . . and by the way, who are you? I liked the last incarnation of your screen name.
