I was watching a show the other evening about how your brain gets used to certain things and misses slight details.  

The show discussed how when you are focused on one thing, many changes can take place around the object your focusing on and your brain just doesn't pick it up.

They had a "magician" do a card trick with a deck of red cards.  He had a woman pick one card and push it out of the pile and then place it back in.  As they are doing the trick, both the magician and the assistant changed into different shirts, the table cloth was changed. and the backdrop was also changed.  

It has do with the way our brains are wired.  When your focused on one thing you simply don't notice other things happening around you.
