I watched some video tapes of some fishing shows from a few weeks ago.  During an episode of Linder's Angling Edge.  In the commercial (I believe was for Versus maybe) has a father in a boat.  The son who is about 11 or 12 years old,  is driving the truck and trailer out of the water.  I was pretty surprised that they would make and air something so irresponsible. : >

I thought the same thing. That little boy couldn't see over the steering wheel. It just seemed odd that they would show something like that.

while I get the whole "where boys become men" thing, I thought that was a poor choice, knowing full well some boy somewhere will think he can drive Dad's truck cause the kid on Versus did it.

I don't think you have to worry not only are most 12 year olds nowadays not worrying about watching bass fishing shows,they don't hav etime from their video games to drive.I think it was cool to show a little father son bonding.But you're right some one will probably sue them cause their 10 year old ran over someone pulling the boat out."He saw it on Versus!"

I should stay out of this discussion. Same as you, CJ I was driving around our property and launching boats, cutting the grass with a tractor and even operating some small construction equipment. I was well supervised and never did anything that was illegal nor was there ever any injuries as a result. The only danger, and I understood it very well, was if I did any of those things unsupervised. In which case I would be disciplined severely.  I have driven everything from a dirt bike to a tractor trailer over 2 million miles and 35 years with out a single accident or a ticket. I believe I owe it to being taught at a young age how to properly handle and respect such equipment. My oldest daughter started practice driving at the high school parking lot when she was 12. She is 24 and has worn out 2 cars without an accident or a ticket. I have contempt for parents who turn their kids loose in car at age 17 or 18 with no more than a 'drivers ed course' at school, just because they are old enough to get a license. Flame suit on!

Some of the stuff I drove prior to turning 16 was capable of causing much more damage than a simple pick up truck!

I'm sure I saw it.  I spend about half my Saturday's watching the fishing shows.  It didn't stand out to me though.

Are you guys serious? A kid driving his dads truck big whoop. He moves the truck a whole 10 feet. Its suppost to be a father son moment, you cant tell me your dad never let you drive his vehicle before you had a valid drivers license.

I drove around town for my father to take groceries to elderly ladies that lived alone and had no family and once a week I would take them what ever they needed.   I also drove at 14 a large delivery truck, a couple of times and at 16 decided to drive a semi around the block,lol ( I got introuble on that one, becasue obviously I got it stuck but the driver was there with me) I don't think now a days kids that young do this unless it's out on the ranch and with no other cars around or out on the lake with supervision, like your dad.  Maybe I am wrong but I

don't think the commercial was ment the way you think people might take it.   I would see that and smile and think of a time I spent with my father.
