IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Any other chronic heartburn suffers running around here? Curious to how you deal with it. I use Pepcid AC and for me it crushes it! I used to use whatever was available until I found the Pepcid. What do you guys use? Tips for brothers of the burn? Happy Releasing! H.G. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 zantac 150...I pop two at a time.If i get a bad one. Used to take Nexium and Prevacid from the doctor's. Lately i haven't had any.Just have to watch what you eat and drink. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 14, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 14, 2008 I take 150mg Ranitidine (generic Zantac) every day, and take an extra 75mg on those Pizza Fridays. It works ok for the most part, but it's still a little weak for me. Used to take 20mg of Aciphex daily and it worked like charm. Absolutely wonderful stuff. But then the insurance company arbitrarily decided to stop covering it, so that was the end of that. Nexium, Pepcid, Prilosec OTC - none of those worked one bit for me. I mean not-at-all. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 40 mg Nexium every day for the last three years. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 Three years ago, my doctor put me on 30 mg Prevacid. It worked OK, but last year he switched me to 40 mg of Nexium...........problem solved. Falcon Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 Acid reflux here; 150mg Ranitidine (generic Zantac) daily Quote
KYbass1276 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yep add another one to the fire. I'm currently using pepcid max strength for now had a presription for nexium that worked pretty good. I have heartburn almost daily lately. It's funny though sometimes I can go long periods with out the burn. Then it just hits and stays with me for a real long time. If I eat anything that has dough or bread I'm screwed. There have been a couple of times I didn't have any nexium or pepcid on hand and have literaly just ate tums all day long. Even with the pepcid I still get it a little but it's tolarable Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I retired last October and haven't had heartburn since. Quote

Olebiker Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Prevacid here. I have had bad acid reflux for the last 45 years and one Prevacid a day takes care of it. Quote

Happy Releasing, H.G. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 15, 2008 Super User Posted March 15, 2008 I also take 150mg Ranitidine (Generic Zantac) every day. It is way cheeper than the name brand stuff. Quote

michbass Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Use to love Nexium but insurance decided not to cover anymore and started on Aciphex and love it. Changing my diet and when I ate certain foods made a huge difference as well. Quote
Super User Micro Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 GERD. Ouch. :'( I've tried the Zantac, Pepcid, etc route and they only work marginally well for me. So I keep antacid tablets around and chew them frequently. Also modified my diet - no soda, or dairy products after about 6:00 PM. Quote
Yakfish Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I keep the Pepcid handy. Spicy food and coffee catch up with me every so often. I gotta quit 'em altogether but they're so darn good! Shame on me. :-/ Quote
dave Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I've been geting it for the last couple of months. Trying now to pinpint what foods. So far, almost all of them. :'( Quote

FishingBuds Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 gerd and Heine hernia- thats what killed me last summer-thought I was having a heart attack. the hospital kept me overnight to make sure too so it was an operation or pills---I chose pills. was on 30mg prevacid and 40mg pepcid, now I'm down to the prevacid. it sucks bad Quote

Fatman1267MM Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I don't know if any of you have ever heard of Barrett's Esophagus, this is a weakening of the muscle around the valve that closes the esophagus. I've had heartburn, ulcers, Acid Reflux, even waking up in the middle of the night to vomit stomach acid for over 17 years. My uncle had it so bad that he developed Esophageal Cancer. If you have Acid Reflux you must get checked for it. He had it so bad that they had to cut out his Esophagus and reattach his stomach to the bottom of the valve. Very painful and life altering. Best thing I've found is losing weight, not eating late, taking prevacid every night and wearing my sleep apnea machine at night. I've tried all of the above mentioned drugs, and thats what finally worked for me. I know you guys may think this sounds crazy, but it's kinda funny, my mom's maiden name was Barrett. Rather ironic don't you think? Quote
