Cigarlover 1 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 John, thoughts and prayers are headed your way buddy! Quote
PaparockArk Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Fellow Broken Fin Fishing Fools members, your prayers for my youngest daughter are needed. She called last night to inform me she had been released from the hospital out in Colorado after surgical removal of a grapefruit sized cancerous tumor and that she has stage three renal cell carcinoma. :'(Over the years I have tried to be a part of her life as much as she would allow me however after her mother and I divorced we have been largely estranged. She is sick, in severe pain, scared of dying from cancer, a divorced single mother of three boys in desperate need that is reaching out. I will do all I can. I humbly ask for your prayers for my little girl. Thanks. Quote
Zel Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Papa, I will keep your daughter in my thoughts. Â I'm being treated for prostrate cancer myself. Cancer is a scary thing, especially when you have young children. Â Sometimes just knowing you are in the thoughts and prayers of others helps you to deal with everything that's going on in your body and mind. Quote
fishbear Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Papa, Your daughter will be included in my prayers every night. Â We can only hope and pray that God knows in his wisdom what is best. Â However, that brings little comfort in a time like this. Â Cancer is such an ugly disease. Â :'( :'( :'( Quote
PaparockArk Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Thanks, everyone! She is really depressed, in pain, and has all but given up on living. I am trying with all I have to help her see there is Hope! Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Â W1-10 You mention something like " because of the choices I've made". Those aren't choices you made. You did what all of us have done which is do something to support your family. You picked a highly needed very respectful way to make a living. It's easy for me to say I know but don't beat yourself up. Maybe try looking at things from the opposite angle. You are in a very tough job and have to do some "tough" things. Some of the thugs you encounter would do some very bad things to a lot of people so in reality you are helping many people not hurting anyone. Those same thugs would harm many people or worse & or maybe be selling drugs to your firend or relative had you not "solved a problem". The world is a better place because of you. Â You owe it to yourself and your family to enjoy life that is why god put you here so sit back and smell the roses a little. Â Your family needs a healthy W1-10 We are not proffessional advice people here we just want to see you well, you DESERVE it ! Fish Fighting Illini AKA - Matt Quote

skillet Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 P_Rock thoughts are with you and your daughter ... maxke01, that's a problem shared by quite a few. I just usually jump in feet first and if the water is to deep...swim like H**L!... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â As Ever, Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â skillet Quote

fish-fighting-illini Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Kid update, It has been since late Oct and my daughter Chelsea has been ok since then. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!! We are not 100% sure why. I just asked her if she thinks the medicine and timing that the Chi specialist suggested is working and she said she not sure. She leans toward just having a good run at the moment. We'll take it either way. She is going to start school agin shortly ( for the 3rd time ). She is back on our insurance now so that saves us $350 / mo. We'll see how it goes. The specialist's school of thought is proponent of the problem. More exact is how her body processes the stress. So we will see if the schooling has an effect. Thanks for the prayers keep 'em coming as insurance! Thanks guys Quote
skillet Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Â GREAT news about Chelsea!!! I would imagine at this point 3 months is a good run for her. Sure hopeing it lasts for a long long time... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â As Ever, Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â skillet Quote

fishbear Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Hey guys, just wanted to check in and say hi.... let you know I am alive. Â Just lost a lot of interest in everything lately. Â Lost my sister to her cancer battle on the 3rd of January, the day after I got back from seeing her. Â Then I had gall bladder surgery on the 10th. Â So, been dealing with that. Â Also, kinda lost my lust for fishing at the moment... tx season is getting ready to start here in Ga. and I am not planning on fishing in any. Â Really do not want to go fishing at all. Â Boat has sat in the back yard all winter, I am half done with the mods I started in the fall and that is where it has been left. Sorry to sound all gloomy and stuff, but that is how it is.... Anyway, hope this finds you all well and healthy, and catching lots of fish. John. Quote
skillet Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Â Sorry about your sister and it's only been a little over 2 weeks since surgery (give it some time). Hopefully, after tax time, you can get back on the mods for your boat and get your line stretched ... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â As Ever, Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â skillet Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 Well, I am back again after another fusion and another round of Botox. Long Mike, if you read this I am considering cancelling the road trip to Guntersville. I have a neck brace back on and not sure when it is coming off. Pain back in arm and neck. Going to give it several more weeks before I make the final decision. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 3, 2008 Super User Posted February 3, 2008 Hey Jack, I PM'd you earlier this evening to check on you. Â Sorry it's not going so well. Â I'll keep in touch. Quote
WIII-60 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 fish-fightin-illini I'm w1-10, I had to change my account. thanks for your words. I don't really mope around and feel like I made a mistake or anything. I guess it's just having the exprosure to the other world that regular people don't ever see. It makes you do odd things sometimes. I always look at people's hands when they first come into view, for example. I tend to dis-regard converstaions or other interaction if a person or an action catches my eye. It just makes things different, if that makes any sense. We're really popular when people are getting shot at, but not so much when they roll through a stop sign. That can draw a line between "us" as a group of professionals, and "them" as the general public. Everybody has seen the news where they show a copper doing something stupid and they say "oh, he should'nt have done that." Taking things at face value and assuming that they know exactly what took place. Everybody on this forum works, or has worked, with an idiot. It just tends to be cops that gets lumped together. People don't say "UPS drivers a lazy and un-professional" because of one driver. I guess it's easy for civilians to do because they assume they know what our job is. It's easy to fall into one's own arrogance and assume your knowledge is broader than it really is. Bakers bake, roofers roof, truck drivers drive trucks, etc. We just get a lot more publicity because people feel like they should be able to judge what we do, even if they are the first to dive under a table when stuff gets hot. It's easy to quarterback when you've never held the ball I guess. Quote
WIII-60 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 In my rant I forgot to add that I'm glad things have taken a better turn for your family. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Â WIII... I had hoped my comments had come accross as positive and it sounds like they did. Â If anyone on this site can help in anyway ( me included ) I'm sure they would. Â Stay in touch and thanks for the words about my family. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 Well...Here I sit with this @#%# neck brace still on. Long Mike just bear with me and hopefully I can get this thing removed shortly. Got a good case of cabin fever so I must be better. Quote
PaparockArk Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Sorry to hear about the neck brace fishfordollars. Around, here people in Cotter and Gassville are still trying to put things back together after the tornado from the same storm system that did so much damage near RW in Tennessee. I hope you feel better soon. Between snow, freezing rain, and wind lately it has not been very conducive to even thinking about going out on the lake. I sure am looking forward to some warm weather if and when it decides to come and stay for a bit. I hear you on the cabin fever! The Corp of Engineers on our lakes just changed the rules on the flotation allowed to be used on all the boat docks on our lakes here and it is going to cost possibly double (maybe even triple)to keep a boat in a slip now by the time everything shakes out which is a real bummer. Hearings are still going on but the change looks to just price everyone on fixed incomes like most retirees with boats in dock slips right out of the market. The Corps was supposed to have public meets a long time before this implementation period but they failed to do that. I hope everyone is feeling good and looking forward to spring and the spawn! dave Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Just read (almost every word) of all 23 pages. Â What a tremendous thread. Â Has anyone heard from bassnJoe? Â He was 43 with colon cancer. Â Hasn't posted for over a year. Quote

P-Rock, glad to hear the storms spared your family...I jerked my brace off and fished a tournament saturday. Did not make it through the entire day(called it quits a little after noon), but did finish fifth with a small limit weighing 13.61. Thank the lord for pain meds, I got through it. Brace back on as soon as it was over. Trying it out with doctors permission to see if Guntersville is going to be a reality. Long Mike, call me tonight if you read this Quote
PaparockArk Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Let's keep Avid in our thoughts and prayers, for he will be missed here and perhaps they will reach him to encourage him to return if for no other reason to participate in this section of the forum. He started this support thread and I wish him the best in whatever he now chooses to do. Quote
