how do you guys deal with noisy neighbors?  We just got some new neighbors right below us, they are a young couple, early 20's.  Everynight from they play there music, now I'm sure it isn't loud in there apartment right below us, but the bass is sooo increadably loud, you can lay on the ground and it's like getting a light back massage.  Now I don't want to go straight to management and "tattle" on them because it's not happening during the "quiet hours from 10 pm - 8am.  For those of you who have had a similar problem, how did you deal with it??

Just go talk to them. *MOST* people are reasonable and will just turn it down. Just approach them calmly and ask politely. Most folks won't give you any trouble.

Try talking to them, it is better to do this while it is not happening. You might be surprised how far that can go, iof not document whats going on, then call the landlord.

This is what i did...meet them when you catch them outside and casually throw in the noise during a conversation.Something like "man, you guys sure have good system in your apt.!" Many of times they will ask if it bothers you, just be straightforwarded and respectful as possible. This usually solves it.

Or they can be real pain in the booty and annoy you even more. Then it's time to get management involved.

There's only 2 outcomes...

Catch them gone, break into their apartment and shoot their speakers.

Make sure you leave gloves that don't fit your hands.

That would be fun!!!!!!

Actually I was the one with the noisy music. I never thought it was that loud but its the bass really travels through the walls. My neighbor came over and very nicely said hey shut the @%#%# up..I never turned it down all i did was turn the sub down and never have heard again form him.... ;D

You'd be better served if you pour a little water into the actual stereo, harder to replace than the speakers.

Next time it is on, bring them down to hear for themselves.  Most people are reasonable.

just ask them if they could please turn the bass down a little. Tell them the volume is fine, but the bass goes straight through the walls. Most people are understanding, remember that.

I don't understand why people listen to music with the bass really loud. Sure, bass sounds great with music, but there is a point where too much bass takes away from the music qualit and makes it sound fuzzy. There is a balance between too much and too little bass that makes the music sound its best.

My apartment has pretty thick walls but sometimes the neighbors under us like to play music pretty loud. Lucky I listen to more music than I watch tv. I've got some decent subs and will battle them.  ;D

I think its pretty understandable that its just rude after hours though.

When I lived in my old apartment, I always had that living above me.  Only one time did the person not get it through polite conversation.

The other guy, well..... ;)  LOL

Take it from a guy who used to party every weekend for the last 3 years or so at my friends apartment. We'd do karaoke and sing and play music loud on Fridays and Saturdays while we drank til like 3am.  We had maybe 1 complaint, possibly two over the years and the neighbors came over around 10 or 11 and asked if we could turn it down.  Luckily mostly teenagers and younger folks in that complex.  But we did.

If you ask and just knock on the door 90% of the time people will cooperate.  They don't want the office or cops involved.  Trust me.

Most of the times we invited people in lol.  Just made the party larger.  d**n those younger couples.  It's funny though, now that I'm married and have a kid on the way we never wanna go out and drink anymore (especially since the wife can't), and after work we are too d**n tired to do anything.  So it's funny how quickly you mature and get outta that scene.  Some never do though.

Simple solution, just ask.  I know it seems weird going up to someone to just do that, but most of the time they will apologize and thank you for coming to them first.

I agree JCrzy, I am still in college, when the dowstairs guys turn the music up, that means we head down and get our drink on.  But it can get annoying on a monday night before a final, so you just go down and speak your peice, most of the time it will work.

When I lived in Fayetteville, NC we lived at one of the nicer apartment places in town, and in that 16 months had to call the office (4) times, police (3), EMTs (4), and just because....social services!  Ask them to please turn it down and consider yourself lucky

When my wife and I lived in a 3rd floor apartment, our downstairs neighbor would play loud rap music ALL the time.

One day I fixed his @$$...... Ever take a guitar amp, turn it to 10, and then lean the guitar against it?

I did that, then left the apartment for about 6 hours.

I had to deal with the same situation years ago when my wife and I were in college.  I tried to talk to the guy but he thought it was something racial and I all I really wanted to do was sleep.  Luckly, we had an older neighbor who had an apartment full of expensive nicknacks.   The bass was so loud it knocked one of a shelf.  She complained to the manager and she ended up having him kicked out.  She also go to keep his security deposit to cover the damage to her broked trinket.

It's never easy. I have been on both sides and still feel terrible when I was the par-tier. Now, we bought a house and the youg-uns next door kick up when the parents are out of town working. It's not as bad.
