Super User roadwarrior Posted March 8, 2008 Super User Posted March 8, 2008 Three years ago Memphis received snow for the first time since I moved here in 1997. Tonight we have a blizzard! 6" of snow and it's still coming down! The city is basically shutdown and the silence is deafing. We have at least a few more hours left in the storm and the temperatures are still dropping. What a beautiful sight! 8-) Quote
skillet Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 You ought to see it out here in Shelby Forest !!! As Ever, skillet Quote
dave Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Sometimes we who get at least some snow every winter and those who get it regularly, forget how a new fallen snow looks, especially at night. Beautiful. (unless you have to go out in it or get stuck in traffic because of it) Quote

We've had enough here in Northern IL to last me a good long time. Oh and 6" of snow and we'd still be working the next day and stores would be open! Wimps. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 It's nice to see someone in the south appreciate the "good" parts of winter weather. I need 4 season's wherever I reside. Stay safe on the roads everyone, I know you folks aren't exactly prepared or experienced for this stuff. Gather the family, it's "stay home" time. And for all you truck owners down there,...a reminder 4 wheel drive allows you to get the traction needed to accelerate. Has NOTHING to do with STOPPING!! Increase your following distances, allow for a bigger "space cushion". Oh and 6" of snow and we'd still be working the next day and stores would be open! Wimps. That would merely slow us down,...."stopping" anything is going to take 15-20 inches before they begin to give it thought, lol Quote

Increase your following distances, allow for a bigger "space cushion". I wish everyone would follow this advice, especially those soccer moms in their big SUV's going 70 mph on four inches of snow. I just shake my head and give them plenty of room. Something's gonna happen and it ain't gonna be good!!! ;D Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 6 inches is nice to see and play in before it melts but we are with in 6 inches of breaking our most snowfall since they started keeping track the record for my town stands at 78 inches so i am a little sick of seeing snow so enjoy ur little snow storm but im sick of snow to last me tell december Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 8, 2008 Super User Posted March 8, 2008 This is for those times where we up here would say it is 25* and snowing and you would give us a weather report of 65* and sunny. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 See, I look at it totally different. If you are open enough to step outside and appreciate it, experience it, like RW explained, I think this gives folks a chance to understand us a little better. All the "Ha Ha's" and "it's 75 and sunny" reports are all unlanded punches with me. I feel bad for what the mono-climate people are missing. Quote
Popeye Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 A beautiful snowy night in Memphis is probably better than a "Rainy Night in Georgia") Oooooh....way too many brewskis tonight:o) Been drinkin' Harp Lager since 14:30 and I think I'm starting to HEAR one!! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 8, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 8, 2008 A winter wonderland! We ended up with 6-8" around the area and woke to clear skies and 24 degrees. The blanket of snow is uniform and the trees look like something on a postcard from a far away land (Rhode Island?) It's just B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! 8-) Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 8, 2008 Super User Posted March 8, 2008 Ranging in some parts from 4-8 inches around here RW. I have an uncle in Batesville who got 12''+. It really can be a beautiful sight. Do I like it when we get our annual snow, of course, but I'm also the kind of guy that tries to wear shorts year around. I'm going to try and go enjoy it before it all melts. Have fun and be safe. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Hey, RW, please send some of that about 650 miles East. I love snow. I'm with LBH on this - want four distinct seasons. We haven't had a good snow here in central in NC 5 or 6 years. Nothing I enjoy more that getting out and walking in the snow. Quote

Super User Tin Posted March 8, 2008 Super User Posted March 8, 2008 No no no Matt, you need one season where the temp ranges from 50-60 degrees so there is a good lipless crank and jerkbait bite. Plus, that weather is a little warm for smallies Quote
