FivePoundBluegill Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 This is something that happened to me on Sunday and I am mad about it still.... Anyway I went bass fishing and took my digital camera with me like I always do. Anyway I caught a decent bass pretty quickly (about a 2 pounder) and decided to take a pic of the fish by my rod. I went to take the picture and my Camera would not work. It said "lens error restart camera". Anyway I kept switching it on and off and couldent get the lens to come out of the camera. I then decided it would take a while and released the fish I just caught. I then tried to get the lens to come out of my camera. Then I made the dumbest decidion I have made in my life and tried to take the lens of my digital camera apart myself and try to get it to work. I got it working somewhat but had to pull the lens every time and still half the time I got the "lens error restart camera" msg. Anyway I spend like 2 hours at the lake trying to fix my camera... Then another two at home. Now the lens will not work at all..... Looks like il have to use most of my next paycheck to buy a new camera . Went to Wall Mart today to look at cameras and saw they have a cannon power shot 650 on clearance for $104. I think I will get that one. My broken camera is a cannon power shot 450 that was close to $200 at the time. Anyway I am pretty angry right now..... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Quote

Shad_Master Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 When my wife and I first got married we were given an electric can opener as a wedding present - one of the features of the appliance was that it had switch in the back that you could flip and make the can rotate clockwise or counter clockwise (???) don't know why but this was a selling point for the thing. However, I could not get the switch to flip - after several tries I laid it on the table and tapped it with a hammer - the entire cutting mechanism fell off :-[ We have now been marrked for 36 years and have never had an electric can opener - I have offered to buy her one on several occasions but it just makes her mad Quote
maxke01 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 LOL we have ALL been there before im sure. I tried to fix a stereo in my home one time. Needless to say it went into the garbage. All 45436532436 pieces of it Quote

I was playing baseball in the backyard with friends, and I was using an aluminum bat.  Well after I was done batting, I got the urge to strike a pine tree that was near me.  Well I leveled the tree and DOINK!!!  The bat bounced off the tree and leveled me in the forehead.  I got knocked out cold.  I still to this day have no idea what made me hit the tree and I still don't understand how the bat could bounce back as fast as it went foward. Quote

ROFL. I pictured that in my head and cracked up laughing. I just tried putting together a bookshelf at work about 5 hours ago and had the bottom shelf and top shelf turned the wrong way and had different colors showing. My boss wasnt very happy  :-/. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Installing an amplifier in a v12 Mercedes,...I was in the trunk (yes, "in") and my buddy hands me the amp (it is being fit into a rather tight space, with a fiberglass housing.) Once the amp was in place, I lifted one end to start wiring it.  I had the 1 gauge wire (thick as your thumb) in my mouth.  I got the remote and ground on and then went to grab the Pos from my mouth.  I dropped it.  Where does it land?  Directly on the neg terminal!!!  Ever smell burning or arced metal?  A $3800 arc audio custom amp,...junk. I called Denny at arc/rainbow and explained exactly what happened.  I explained this was my mistake, I was just hoping there may be replaceable parts that I could just repair the amp with.  He said that because I was SO honest, he was replacing it,...no questions.  SWEET!!!  He explained that they can often determine EXACTLY why an amp blew and that he spends his day explaining to customers who lied to him, exactly what they did.  It gets frustrating and my honesty was a breath of fresh air. Moral- Tell the truth!!! 2nd moral- don't let Russ do your install  ;D Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 LOL we have ALL been there before im sure. I tried to fix a stereo in my home one time. Needless to say it went into the garbage. All 45436532436 pieces of it AHAHAHA, that so sound like me. I had an old all in one component stereo system that one day decided it no longer wanted to play CDs. So after months of trying to get it to work the problem escalated to that it would no longer eject the 6 disc magazine. Well that was the last straw, I attempted to take it apart but after I broke the faceplate I just went at it with a screw driver and pried the CD magazine out and then opened the window of my bedroom and tossed it out the 2nd story window into the snow. slomoe Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I remember about 12 years ago, My parents and I had moved to a new house. During the move some how the emergency key for the treadmill got lost, you know the one you pull if you can't run anymore and you need to stop it immediately, but you can't start it without it in. Well I took it upon myself to try and rig it so it would run without a key. I pop open the panel and started tinkering, poking, and proding, trying to find the switch. Needless to say, it was still plugged in and I am pretty sure my heart stopped beating for a moment. Scared the doodoo out of me. Quote

Scared the doodoo out of me. Wow...reminded me of a similar incident years ago. I was on board a tanker working on a 220V circuit on a ladder. 2nd Assistant Engineer says "yup, I killed the power on that circuit". My screwdriver slipped and went across two terminals. Went off like a bang and threw me off the ladder and onto the deck about 5 feet away. I was so ticked off at that 2nd I was ready to throw him overboard! Valuable lesson though. Never, ever take anyone's word for it when working with electricity. Kill the power, tag it out and test it yourself. If working on live stuff, keep one hand in your pocket and be REAL careful. Ouches can be deadly Quote
Fatman1267MM Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I thought only my customers did stupid stuff. Â You guys make me feel alot better about the people I deal with every day. Â I've been in the hardware business for 5 years now and a day doesn't go by that I don't have to tell a customer "that may not work", but what I really want to say is " Hey stupid, call me from the hospital and let me know how that worked!!!". Â I can't really complain though, I know it's gonna get me one of these days. Â My dad has cut off a fingertip 3 times trimming the hedges. Â On the 3rd trip to the ER, they just asked him when he walked in " Which one is it this time?". Â He couldn't learn the first two times? Quote
guitarkid Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I had a tv that died with one of my favorite dvd's in it. So me being me I decided to get it out. After I got my screw drivers etc. I got the dvd out. Not really a screw up until I looked allover my floor and realized there were sharp objects all over the floor. Stupid piece of crap tv-0 searoach-1      HAHAHAHAHA Me and my brother and a friend were putting up a sign at a business one time, We were almost done just installing the sign into the slot that was cut in the wood for it. Then my brother was told to hold the 2x4 in place so we would not mess up the bottom of the sign. My friend says "do not move your hand" well needless to say the wood shifted and my brother got NAILED in the finger by a 20oz.waffle hammer, On get this-his middle finger. The bottom of the sign was white until then. After that incident it was a nice "red-ish" color. From you guessed it my brothers blood all over the bottom. Later that night, he went to the hospital, and they just laughed and put a HUGE bandage over it, I am talking half a role of gauze on his finger. Sorry to be long winded but you have to hear the story in full detail           -searoach Quote
