ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Bus Cook, Favre informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night. Quote

His body just can't handle the cold like it used to. The two very cold games this past season, @ Chicago and the NFC Championship, he just couldn't get it done. After thinking about these two games, I had a bad feeling he wasn't coming back. I grew-up watching Favre. He took us from perennial cellar-dwellers to the top of the NFL. He will be missed greatly. I have no idea how we'll get used to not seeing #4 under center on Sundays. With his ironman streak and all, the thought of not seeing Favre on game day has never crossed my mind. It has been a given. We've been lucky to not only have a QB that you know wll be there every week, and to never have a QB controvesy, but to have one that played at the caliber he has. Popeye Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Of all the NFL quarterbacks I liked Brett the best. He was a gritty player who played with pain and never complained. One of the all-time greats, IMO!! It's going to be very difficult for GB to replace him. Quote

He is, BY FAR, one of the best football players ever. I can't say that I've ever seen anyone play with more heart. Hopefully the Pack will still be competitive with Rogers at the helm. If I could describe him with one word, it would be HEART. I don't know how he played at 40+ years old in -10* cold against 300 lb players half of his age. He is a legend never to be forgotten. Quote

silvercliff_46 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I'm going to give Rogers a chance. I can remember a scrawny kid completing his first pass at Lambeau field. It was Brett Favre to Brett Favre, (No I didn't misspell his name Favre is the way it is spelled, but he pronounces it FaRve ? When you play like him you can call yourself what you want.) and the interceptions. I thought "where did this guy come from and when are we going to send him back". He grew.....boy did he grow, until we have the legend we have today. Brett was MORE then a football players though, he was a man, and one of the best examples of a man since the "Duke" (John Wayne). The thing was, Brett, was real. He puked blood, and kept playing, he got hooked on pain killers, admitted it, then played even better. His Dad died, and he played his best game ever, his wife got cancer, and he broke almost every record there was. He's a Hall Of Fame'r, but above that, what a man should aspire to be.
