Big T Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I just thought I would post this. I mentioned in a couple posts in the last few weeks, that I was going to have to have more spinal cord surgery to remove a tumor recurrence. I actually had to have two small tumors removed from my lower back about six inches apart. I was told there would be a chance of motor deficiet and paralysis, due to the fact that they had already cut me once in the same spot. Well I had my surgery Tuesady the 19 at Duke University Medical Center and everthing went great. I had to lay flat on my back until this past Saturday. When they let me up to start my walking and such, I ended up walking a measuured 1/2 around the Nueroscience floor the frist day. I was relaesed Sunday after walking around 3/4 Sunday. I knew I was going to be fine because I was in good shape, but I suprised everyone including my self. I still have to doue some radation therapy even though the tumors were considerd benign but I feel great, not having to use pain killers and I should be ready to hit the water once spring arives. Sorry fo the long post but I am really excited and fornuante that everything went so well. Big T Quote
preach4bass Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Glad everything went well. Hope you have full and speedy recovery. Quote
Big T Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 Thanks Preach4bass, I feel great, I had great doctors and lots of prayers. I did so well I almost felt bad, because I was up walking after a major surgery and the floor I was on, housed pateints who had strokes, back and neck surgery etc. Some could even walk on their own. Not trying to brag or minimize own surgery, but I was not half as bad off as some of the other patients. It hepld that I was in good physical shape before the surgery. Quote
fooman Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Great to hear your doing good. I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted 2 weeks ago..I was out of the hospital the same day and never touched the pain pills they gave me(had trouble kicking them a while back). I did PT all the way up until surgery and I think that made a huge difference in my recovery and the pain.. Quote
skillet Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 You've got a right to be excited ;D and glad you're doing so well 8-)... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 That's great news. Sounds like your strong and healthy. And good choice by staying away from those pain pills as long as possible. Thos things can be VERY addicting so be careful. Peace.... Quote
preach4bass Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 T., You remind me of a guy in our Church. He got struck by lightening about two years ago and has still not recovered from the shock (stroke-like symptoms). He's out of work, so when he's having a good day (healthwise) I take him visiting in the hospital with me. Every time we leave he talks about how you can always find someone who's worse off than you. He amazes me. This guy's life has been turned completely upside down, and he's more worried about others than himself. Anyway, like I said, you reminded me of him with your statements above. You never know how your injury/illness can be used to help someone else out. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 Glad to hear everything went well. What section of the spine was the procedure performed on? While you recover, you can definitley get your fishing fix on the forum. I'm awaiting spinal cord surgery myself. I originally injured it about a year ago. I ruptured the base of my spine internally, therefore it's leaking spinal cord fluid through a large tear. There is a herniation at L5-S1 as well. As I get closer to my procedure I'll PM you with some questions if that's ok. Spring will be here soon. Then you can make-up for some lost time on the water. Take care. -Shaun Quote
