Below are a few questions from our daughters 3rd grade homework

Do me a favor and don't answer them in the thread just answer 3 out of 4 or got em all  or got em all but had to think. No Googleing w/o trying first. The 3000ml to L one I kind of new but mainly because in college you convert Mil amps to amps   a bazillion times in a 2-3 year period. I still had to double check myself.

Problem #1

What is the best estimate for a large chalkboard?

Problem #2What is the best estimate for the capacity of a small cooking pot?

Problem #3

Problem # 4

3,000 ml = ? L

G) 300        J) 3

These are not that bad but getting around 50 and being rusty it was an adventure!

Ahhh...Estimating and Reasoning. I know exactly how you feel. I have spent countless hours with my oldest son, he's in the 4th grade now. I get frustrated cause alot of the questions in their assignments are almost asking for an opinion or there isn't a clear answer. It's sad cause he has to do his homework, then I have to do his homework to check it!

What are you tryin to say are you sayin that the next generation is so stupid that we don't know anything.Ha yeah right I'm just kiddin but yall older people(20 is older to me so don't draw conclusions) should try takin some of them dang tests that they give us in school now a days. We gotta know metric standard and some classes have to know kelvin. We gotta know how to read all kindsa gauges and crap and we gotta be able to look at a sentence and tell exactly what is wrong with it whether it be fragmented or missin a comma or a phrase of somethin is misplaced. It'd make just about anyone's head spin and I am just getting started on the list. I could probably fill this page and several others with the crap I have had to learn over the past 11 years-yeah 11 years in school actually 12 if you count kindergarten. So we ain't dumbing down we are just gettin dragged down by all the crap that they want to try to teach us while wasting my time that I could be spendin in the crick. And I go to a little school compared to some of the others in this country(high schools)

I suspect many, if not most, of the Team Depends members felt the same way when they were your age. You may be surprised how much smarter they get as you get a little older. Some of the old dogs are even learning new tricks. I know it is hard to believe, but during the Stone Age we did not have computers or MTV! It took an ice age to force us to learn how to build a fire and we could not make a Taco Bell run after drinking all night. I guess times have always been "tough".

Imagine if you can, life before pizza.

Problem# 1 I thought 3 yardfs made the only sense but I thought 9ft seems like a huge chalkboard. Not in relation to a large room though

Problem #2 was obvious but I though 2 cups doesn't seem like much of anything. In the smallest pot though I guess so. With 5 kids we don't often get a small pot of anykind out!

Problem#3  I thought water boiled at around 200deg F so I thought you can't drink boiling water

50 deg C was around 122 deg F and I figured maybe that was a fairly hot drink?

The U.K. used to use our system of weights and measures.  After all, where do you think we got it from?  I don't remember the dates and timing, but one day the government said to the public "On (say) January 1, 1980, the U.K. will convert to the metric system.  Get ready for it.  You have twenty years of warning."  So the U.K. spent only twenty years to convert to a fully decimal system.  If they can do it, why can't the great U.S. of A.?

A cup is a measurement representing the amount of water one can hold in their hands. A foot is...well an average male foot. A yard is three "foots". Our mesurements have meaning. There is nothing magical about a decimal or the metric system. Atoms don't know how much they weigh and stars don't know how far they are apart. Can anyone comprehend the distance of a light year measured in miles or kilometers?
