HesterIsGod Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 i dont think we should have a welcome thread. Their really arent that many "new member" threads, maybe 3 at the most. Plus, the modifiers have said it before, winter is the time when most people join this site so it should tone down come spring.
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 If we had a welcome section I bet most of y'all that are whining probably wouldn't even open it to welcome anyone. I guess I aint as tactful as Ronnie Good point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Unabasser Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 To Una basser:Well at my age peeing is an acomplishment, thank goodness I'm not there just yet

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 i guess i did sound like a jackass earlier. i should have chose better words : but i think it would be great if there were a new members section opened up so that way the "general bass fishing" section could be all about fishing, and not have new member threads.
Super User Tin Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 No one is a "Perfect Poster". I think more people just need to go over the FAQ's and look around before you post.
mattm Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I hate the welcome forum idea. I think a lot of new people would skip it. Plus, I think the ones that did post in it would recieve a lot less welcomes than they get in the general section. I honestly don't know how many times a week/day I would check the welcome board, but as it is now i hit the general forum everytime i'm on, and always try to greet the new guys. I remember how excited I was to check all my welcome posts not that long ago. I have a lot more patience for so many moved threads after hearing LBH's explanation. I've always believed that the newer guys should be cut a break. Didn't realize the moved threads I see were all 10 post or less.
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 25, 2008 Super User Posted February 25, 2008 Alls I ask is for some consistency. Move one, move them all that don't pertain. Too many times one stays, one goes.
Guest muddy Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 MINE SEEM TO DISSAPEAR NO MATTER WHERE I POST EM

I have watched several forums over the years that have welcome sections. At first they are great and plenty of members come to welcome the new guys but in a very short amount of time the mods become the only ones who welcome them. The way we do it here is the best way. It helps all the new members who introduce themselves feel welcome and part of the family. It is the reason we retain so many great members for so long. First impressions are big and there is no better way to have a good one than to make someone feel welcome in our big family. As for the moved topics. This is how we educate the new members as to how things work. Sending them a PM is a good idea but most of them don't know how to check it when they are new and a PM is more work for us. If you don't like reading between the moved stuff just go to the third page and they won't be there. I have been deleting them from the third page on for over a year now.

Super User Matt Fly Posted February 25, 2008 Super User Posted February 25, 2008 Nope, don't want that collateral duty either. Just mentioned being consistent.

George Welcome Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Every forum goes through people trying to run it after bit of time on board. Fortunately, only one person runs this forum. If you don't like the way it's run perhaps you are at the wrong place. This ain't no democracy.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Will this thread ever end?!?!? Yes- I think this one has run it's course folks.....We will end with George's poignant note
