Tpayneful Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I get a headache just looking at the General thread! With all the moved topics and threads that never end, I am going to probably skip it for a while. Anyone else feel this way?
mattm Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 The threads that go on forever don't bother me so much. It does get a little annoying when there are a bunch of move threads like there is now.
Guest muddy Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I agree witht ehway moved threads are noted now, it makes it hard to read what is in the forum. As for threads that go on and on, THANK GOD, some forums I visit get maybe 20 posts A WEEK. There is a wealth of knowledge here and it is better to have as much input and dialouge as possible; otherwise i would just read a magazine or watch a DVD, it's all those repsonses that make this place what it is 8-)
Fish Man Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 i agree with muddy and mattm that the moved topics are very annoying and are the reason i dont visit that part of the forumn as much as i used to but the large threads dont bother me

Tpayneful Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Muddy and Catt, You are right. I am probably just being grumpy today! This place is great. Cloudy weather with a high of 41 degrees is getting to me! Only 14 days until I leave for Florida and only 21 until I get to fish Stick Marsh! Need to stay positive!
Super User Alpster Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 It stands to reason why so many posts get moved on the general board. New members don't yet know how the forums are organized, so they tend to post on the general board. Moving the posts really helps new members understand quickly how the board is ordered. In the long run, it helps us all. Just imagine if you had a question about a bait, line, or better yet, Lake Whatyacallit in Whatsahawkin, MO. If the forums weren't segregated the way they are, you would have to depend on the search engine to find anything specific. It would be a true nightmare. LOL It's hard, diligent work for the mods to keep posts under the right topic, but it is the most efficient way to help us all to stay organized. You would miss it if it weren't happening, I guaranty it. JMHO Ronnie

The "new member" threads don't really bother me, but it does make sorting through posts difficult. I've seen sections on other forums specified just for the "new member" posts. Just something to think about. Either way, I'm happy to be here.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY YOU GUYS ARE PISSIN AND MOANING> THIS IS THE ONLY FISHING SITE WHERE PEOPLE ARE MADE WELCOME AND ENOURAGED TO JUMP IN. IF YOU HAVE TO CRY < GO TO YOUR ROOMS AND KNOCK YOUR SELVES OUT ;D ;D ;D It is difficult, because of my vision , to get around the new way to denote a moved thread, and I am sure I will get used to it. Lets see we have problems because people are welcomed here and there is a lot of information on certain threads,< GEEEZZZZZZZZZZZ :-/
Other. Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Well instead of showing "This topic has been moved to..... by roadwarrior" I am sure there is a option for Glenn to enable that will move the topic with out having to show that the topic has been moved. Then just send a polite PM to the new user stating why the topic was moved and some insight on posting in the right sections. As well for the "Hi am I new here" That is a tad annoying to. Hey Glenn can you add a place for members to introduce them self so it does not clog up the general section?
The Unabasser Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 let me say I'm def not peeing and moaning at all but maybe just maybe we could add a welcome/introduce yourself section?...that would prob answer the ? in ? just a thought...unabasser back to his corner now

I love this place because I feel welcome here.
Guest muddy Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 To Una basser:Well at my age peeing is an acomplishment, To Hookem: Waht do you mean apper to be a crank old guy I AM BEYOND CRANKY 8-)
Super User Alpster Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 Quote I guess after we've been here for a while we stop thinking about "the new guy" and we forget that we used to be that "new guy". I love this place because I feel welcome here. Hookem, You said it! I remember my first post and how so many members knocked themselves out to welcome me and make me feel like I belong here. Now I have made some great personal friends, I travel all over the country and fish with these guys. Last year at the Lake Fork Road trip, I got to know a lot of members personally. In the next six weeks, I will get to fish with 50+ members of this forum in Guntersville and then with another dozen or so in RI at the CAST for Kids Tourney. A member of this board (a guy I've never seen in person) offered to loan me and Speedbead his $40,000 bass boat to use for a week in Guntersville because I don't have a motor on my boat. For some reason, I am having a hard time being upset by the constant, boring, repetitive new member intros. As a matter of fact, I feel quite obligated to welcome as many new guys as I can. If I had not been made to feel welcome, I would have probably just moved on. What a HUGE loss that would have been for me. How many of you guys realize that Glen and Fivebasslimit were at the Bassmaster Classic and prefished the tournament with Mike Iconelli and Timmy Horton. If you had told me 2-years ago I would know these guys personally and get to hang out with them and fish with them I would have thought that was crazy. Members get to laugh at Muddy man's jokes. I call him a personal friend and traveled across the country and fished with him. Roadwarrior cooked his famous BBQ and we stayed at his house, LBH cooked me a Lobster dinner and put me up for the night. I can go on and on. Most of the members of this board will take you in like family without even knowing who you are. That's pretty rare these days. Think about it. JMHE Ronnie

Then just send a polite PM to the new user stating why the topic was moved and some insight on posting in the right sections. As well for the "Hi am I new here" That is a tad annoying to. You've been here long enough to know how it's done. If the poster has less than 10 posts, the notification stays up, if more than 10, the poster should know the layout by then and it is removed. There are MANY, MANY more threads moved than you see. You only see the ones by people with less than 10 posts. Which brings us to new folks.... If you think we are going to stop saying "Howdy, welcome aboard", then you're at the wroooooong place. We will not only greet them at the door, bit will even try to to actually go out of our way to teach a new member the layout or make them feel welcome. Much of our member body does the same because many of them remember how welcome they felt when they were new. It's what we are about and will not change. * A welcome section has been discussed between the staff and is continuously up for review
FishingBuds Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Yes a welcome section is a good Idea, as I did, you will find introductions all over the place, would be cool to visit a newbie area, that way we(members) wouldn't have an excuse to miss the oppertunity of introductions.
skillet Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I'll be the Devil'sAdvocate here, thought it was great when I signed up in the General Section and all the folks welcomed me like old friends! Really don't think it would be the same if in another section. This not meant in a condesending way (seriously) I can remember welcoming some of the folks that are griping . I think as large as we have gotten and probably will be getting larger, it's a fact of life, deal with it ;D... As Ever, skillet
Super User Catt Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 If we had a welcome section I bet most of y'all that are whining probably wouldn't even open it to welcome anyone. I guess I aint as tactful as Ronnie
