Crabcakes Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I think this one hasn't been done before. With all the fish minded folk around here some of you must keep fish at home. Anyone have tanks? Big or small-fresh or salt? Share your pictures or descriptions. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I just bought a 35 gal. fish tank and have to go pick it up from my parents house on saturday. I have two 4" bass and 3 1.5" bream to put in my tank. I have been keeping them in a big cooler for the past week and I am very anxious to get them in the fish tank this weekend. I got them about 50 minnows on Monday and all but about a dozen and a half are gone. I'll post some pics when I get it all set up. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 LBH, don't let that cat get too close to the Oscar, or it will be all over........for the cat They go at it allll the time, that's why there is no hood on the tank, lol They usually wait till 2-3 am and I wake up at the sound of the topwater splash/wave hitting the floor and the cat retreating, knocking over anything in her way,lol Quote
utser Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 i have a 55 gal. freshwater. 5inch green severum, 3 inch silver dollar, and a pair of convicts about 2 inches. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I've been involved in the captive coral reef hobby for 12 years. Current tank is an Oceanic 58 gallon. Total system volume is 72 gallons including the sump. What a way to triple the electric bill every month!!! http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=770710 Quote
slomoe Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 absolutly SICK setup Matt. Looks very complicated, way over my head. Quote
skillet Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Matt, you do good work my friend! Mine would be on the other end of the scale. I have a really pretty (solid red) Betta in 2 gal. clear glass vase ... As Ever, skillet Quote
Popeye Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Had a nice saltwater one years ago. Drove the cats nuts. I loved that, but then again so did "Monty", my 10' Burmese Python everytime I let him out of his cage to crawl around the house:o) Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Thanks for the kind words fellas. My setup pales in comparison to some of the setups out there. But, it's what I can afford right now. I'm trying to purchase only aquacultured species, as to reduce the environmental impact. The hobby has made leaps and bounds in the last ten years. Quote
Other. Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 28 gallon tank dedicated to fancy guppies. Quote

If you are trying to kill the bass and bream it is much cheaper and faster to just chop their heads off. Why torture them in a 35g tank? You are aware that even 1 bream is to big for a 35 gallon tank right? Large fish require more room to swim and and they produce more bio-load then lets say a 1" guppy would. Please research some more before you decide to keep fish. They have more upkeep and they need more care then what most people think. If you want to keep bass and bream invest in a 200 gallon tank. Super User Raul Posted February 23, 2008 Super User Posted February 23, 2008 For many years I had aquarium tankS ( Raul, the King of Excess ......... ain 't it kool ? ) in a fishroom, discus, angelfish, plecos, tetras, catfish, livebearers, barbs, rainbows, you name it ...... I 've had it and even bred it ( including those expensive up to 500 bones a pop african ciclids and fancy plecos ), I 've also had a couple of mini reef tanks ( who said you couldn 't have a 25 gal mini reef tank choked full with all those pretty nice soft and stony corals ? ) but no more, and with lil kids in the house and me not being there thank you but no thank you, not because something bad may happen to the kids, something bad may happen to the tanks and what 's inside of them. I 'm retired from fishkeeping. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted February 24, 2008 Super User Posted February 24, 2008 I have several aquariums over the years. That is how I picked my forum name. I have had a 55 gallon reef tank, 45 gallon column for discus, 60 gallon column for angel fish, 45 gallon for cichlids, 2 20 gallons for servums, several 10 gallons for guppies, feeder fish, and minnows, and I went through a phase for bettas. Right now I am down to my 45 gallon with angel fish, 45 gallon for cichlids, one betta bowl, and 5 gallon for a 9 year old gold fish. My last discus died aroung christmas, she was 8 years old. I hope sometime this summer I will start it back up but it was alot of work (even harder than my reef tank). Quote

Mucho Props una-B!! Feel the love brotha?? My friend offered me a 125 and/or a 350 and I don't have the room!! Ugh,...that hurts. One of the most impressive achievements I've ever seen... Thought I would share. My tank is a piece of crap compared to this http://oregonreef.com/sub_gallery.htm Give it time Matty, there's alot of $$ in that tank. The attention to detail in the construction of yours is both cool and KEY. That puppy runs so stable, it will give you the peace of mind to spend $ on more new corals and stuff. Plus, now I know what to get you for your birthday Quote

If it's bigger than him, he'll just go for the eyes till he gets 'em,lol. Crays are fun to watch, he'll inhale the 1st few and then just mess with the last few.......picks the claws off first and then just bully's them all over the tank. Quote
