John J. Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Yes, and we are having overcast skis and a chance of rain in Richmond. Bummer. Same here in Orange....I hope it clears out before then... If anyone wants to learn more about astronomy and if yall want a great computer program that provides excellent detail of the night sky and the future events (solar/lunar eclipses, comets, etc.) Starry Night Backyard is an excellent program! I just ordered it a week ago and it came in today. I downloaded it onto my computer and it is awesome. I had experience with it in Astronomy Class in highschool and I really wanted to get it because you can learn so much from it and it shows excellent detail, and even information about outerspace. For those who are interested here's the program I ordered: Starry Night Backyard Complete Space and Astronomy Pack 6.2 At $50 it's not too bad. I learned a lot from it and I use it to help map out the sky so I can find planets easier with my telescope! Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Hey John J, Put on some wierd music; light up the lava lamp; and turn on the computer with the astronomy program and you can psych yourself out. Call the EMT's - John J has gone kook-koo on us!!!!!! Just kidding. I got a A in astronomy at LSU. Love the course. A little German Ph.D. taught it and me and my friends had a good time in the course. We still talk about it today and my best friend's wife even remembers his name - Dr. Grenshick. He had a white beard and wore glasses and looked the part of a mad scientiest. But he was a nice guy. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 snowin here, too cloudy to see Quote

I'll be snapping a few pictures of it while it is happening, that way for those who can't see it, yall can see it from my view : ;D Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Crystal clear skies here tonight. I can see it starting right now. I will get a few pictures and post them. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 21, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 21, 2008 NICE, Blaine. It's overcast here, and doesn't look like clearing anytime soon. I'm gonna miss it. Looking forward to your pics. Quote
John J. Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Got some photos coming in! I took a few through the telescope lense! believe me it is harder than it looks especially when it is freezing outside!!! Naked eye view: Telescope View: Another tele view: My best view through telescope!!! She surely is a sight!! Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Let it be known that I suck at taking photos of the moon. John J.'s photos turned out way better than mine. The ones I took look like a speck in the night sky. I'm just gonna delete them. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 We actually have clear skies tonight. Eclipse looks really neat. Kinda deep orange/red. Like John said, it's tuff to stand outside long when it's so cold out. Right now it's 1* w/out windchill. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 It's cloudy here. It looks like a lot of people won't get to see the eclipse. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Completely blacked out here now. I thought it got cloudy until I walked back outside. I can see the stars but no moon. Quote
Jake P Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I went to get in my car a few hours ago on my lunch break at work and i saw it, it looked pretty cool. I came out of work on my break later and didnt see the moon anywhere. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 We were able to see the full moon from dusk just until the lower left of the moon's disk was beginning to cover (probably about 10%). Then the clouds began to roll in. Thanks for the pics, John. I might share them with my students. Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted February 21, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 21, 2008 it cleared up nicely here, and I got to see it. i was in the middle of my hour+ drive home when the middle of eclipse occured. i had to pull over and watch for a bit. Got home just as the total part was ending and tried to get some pics. They sucked so bad I deleted them. Sorry guys. I had perfectly clear skies, a great view of the moon and a few bright starts framed by a big pine tree. Thought I had it sacked. But none of the pics looked anything like what I was seeing. Apparently there's a bit more to this astronomical photography than meets the eye. Maybe next time around, eh? Thanks guys for the GOOD pics. Cheers, GK Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Eclipse's are nice to see, but when is the next Comet coming around? Quote
