Super User Long Mike Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Jake if your job is OK but it is not what you want to be doing ten years from now, then you you should be asking yourself several tough questions. 1. What do I want to be doing five, ten or even twenty years from now? 2. What do I need to do to get there? 3. Am I willing to do what is needed to get there? The first two questions are easy questions to ask of yourself. The third requires a decision and a commitment that very few choose to answer with the word "Yes." It's all up to you. Quote

ejtaylor822 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 IT Solutions Architect for a leading NC Health Insurer. Been here over 10 years last month - this was suppose to be temporary. I don't particularly "like it" but its very tolerable and provides a good living for me and my family. Job I enjoyed the most was as a mechanincal engineer working for New Port News Shipbuilding designing aircraft carriers. Second was when I was a UNIX admin building and administering IBM SP2 systems. That's what I came to my present company for and wound up staying. Quote
mattm Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 New home sales. Like my job, but love the company I work for. If i didn't work weekends I would be set. Hope to be working for the same company in a management position in a couple of years. Quote
Red Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 i am a carpenter....currently i am working for a company that builds press boxes for football stadiums and such....i dont get paid very much(but i do get a raise every year) but i look forward to work each day....and it is a great company too. they even gave me a x-mas bonus when in fact i was technically still working for the staffing company. i am 30 years old and this is the first time i have had medical insurance, not to mention dental and vision too. its great....it is like building a small little house...pretty much the same process except is scaled down. and recently i have also been learning to weld(we build metal and wood boxes), which is something i am also enjoying alot. i just like to do work and look back at the end of the day actually see that i accomplished something. i know alot of people spend most of their working lives in jobs they cant stand...my dad did for 35 years, but now he is retied and very "comfortable" and can do the things he enjoys. i hope to spend 35 years doing the job i love to do, then retiring and fishing all day everyday!! ;D Cliff Quote

Super User cart7t Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 The same thing I've been doing since I graduated from Tech School in 1976. Repair of television sets. There was a 3 year stint in there where I got out of the business and worked for the old McDonnell-Douglas (Boeing) company and I installed car stereo's for about 2 years in the late 70's (great way to meet chicks and the money was good.) Went back to college to get into the exciting, growing field of IT. Graduated and then realized most good entry level jobs got out-sourced to India. > I'm bored and waiting for retirement. Quote

Brian_Reeves Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 United States Army, Infantryman 1st Cav, Ft. Hood Texas I've been to Iraq twice. 27months fighting over there in two of the worst areas. Sadr City in 04-05 and Diyala Province in 06-07. I've been through nearly 1300 morter strikes, 100+ firefights (mounted and dismounted combined), and between 50-100 IED strikes. I've served as a dismounted rifleman, machine gunner, and spotter. I've also drove the M2ODS and M2A3 Bradleys and served as a gunner on the A3's. In my 5 years of service, I've been to NTC in california, JRTC in Louisiana, countless training missions on Ft. Hood, and a dozen other places that aren't hitting my mind right now. My job is to take my rifle, machine gun, bradley, and explosives and use them to make sure these jerks don't poison our lakes. ;D Well, that's one reason. The main reason is that I fight so that our kids have a shot at a better life than we had. So yeah, I like my job because I am extremely proud of what I do. I'm getting out of it in August though. That'll be 6 years. 2+ in Iraq, at least 1 full year in training, and countless 24 hour days. This job isn't for a family man. I'm going to be signing up in Louisiana as a police officer or as a game warden and work nights while I go through school. I"ll also be serving in the national guard, just in case my nation needs my boots again. When school is done, I'll be an operator in a plant, making about 80-110,000 a year. That's when Brian gets his Skeeter Quote
