Super User Sam Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 My wife and I had a discussion today as to what she would do with all of my fishing stuff. She has no idea of the value of the rods, reels and tackle so she said she would probably give the stuff away as our son has no interest in fishing since he got married. I have no idea what other interests he would have but he is no longer interested in going out on the boat early in the day and not getting home until late in the evening. So, what plans do you guys have for your spouses or children to dispose of your fishing gear when you finally go to that big lake in the sky? I am thinking of making a list of guys who to give the stuff to, free of charge. What are your thoughts??? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 If I was to bite it, my best friend would have to get all my crap. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Hmmm......this will require some more though. Quickly just now I asked my wife and she replied....."ebay". Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 Before I die I would hide it around the UPS building. LBH and 5.0 could go on a scavenger hunt for everything. Quote
mattm Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Assumig i bit it tommorow I would want my wife to hold on to it for my son. If he didn't like fishing : he could have what he wanted for keepsakes, and the rest would go to my best friend. Unless my wife knew of a needy, deserving person, and then I would want them to have it. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Before I die I would hide it around the UPS building. LBH and 5.0 could go on a scavenger hunt for everything. ;D ;D ;D Quote
FishingBuds Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 My luck she'd give it to that BassHunter69 guy > My son would get it, or unless his sister beats him to it ;D Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 I am leaving all my fishing stuff to Muddy Man. Wait...on second thought, he would sell all my Shimano stuff and buy Floogers. I am just going to have it buried with me. Seriously, my kids get everything and they are aware of the value of the stuff. They will be in touch with several members of this board to properly dispose of the gear without being ripped off. It is great to have friends. 8-) Ronnie Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I guess I'd donate my stuff to CAST for kids if my son didn't want it. He better want it or I'm going to haunt him. Quote
TruflShufl Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I guess I'd donate my stuff to CAST for kids if my son didn't want it. He better want it or I'm going to haunt him. ;D Once I get married and have kids, I'd say this is what my reply would be. Otherwise i'd have it divvy'd up between my fishing buddies. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 well i'll be dead anyway so whats it matter to me where it goes right? lol ;D j/k well i dont have a wife or kids (thank gawd! last thing i need right now is to be a teenage father) so im not sure where it would all go. i guess my dad would keep it all since he fishes too...but he never fishes on his own. oh well, i'd still want him to have it. Quote
frogtog Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 A few of my rod & reels and some baits are going with me. The rest of my fishing stuff and my vast fortune will go to my friends. Now it's 3:58 and I'm going fishing Quote
Popeye Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 IF my two sons didn't want all my stuff, and since neither of them are much into fishing, I'd probably have my wife split it up between my 3 brothers in Illinois who are all avid fisherman and hunters. I kinda liked that "Viking Funeral" idea:o) Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Eric knows my plan. His kids get the cream (not saying a lot considering my screenname, lol) and THEY give the rest to other kids, friends of theirs. The boat is going to the bottom,...the structure we always needed. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 My little brother gets all the gear, but even he doesnt know where some of my recent "secret" purchases are hidden! Quote
Pond Hopper Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 My little brother gets all of my outdoors equipment other than a few things that go to buddies, he will be set if it ever happens. He is already one of the only 12 year olds I know fishing St. Croix rods and Revos. Spoiled brat ;D Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Same place my basses are going - to my little girl. Whether she fishes or not, she knows how much they meant to me. Also, she would have her Granddaddy's rod and reel as well. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Well, being of ripe old age, I've thought about that a lot. Neither of my brothers are fishermen. My kids don't fish, nor does any other member of my extended family. So ... All of my rods, reels and tackle will be donated to Muddy. My Tracker will be sold at Market value, which is a hell-of-a-lot less than it's worth. I've discussed this with my wife and it's a done deal. Muddy, don't get your hopes up. First of all, I plan on living MUCH longer than you. Secondly, you will not inherit enough stuff from me to even think about opening you own bait shop. ;D ;D ;D Quote
frogtog Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 LM you really know how to build em up and tear em down all in one post Quote
Jake P Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Not many of my family or friends like to fish. I would have to give most of it to my fishin' partner and the rest to someone who would use it in a positive way. Quote
fishbear Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It all goes to my brother, to hold for my nephew until he is old enough to know what it is, and what it means. Same for my guns, and hunting gear. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 idk, didn't think I was going to die since I catch and release. Quote
farmpond1 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I am going to follow the lead of the ancient egyptians. I'm going to have a pyramid (albeit a small one) erected where I will be buried. In it will be placed all the things I need in the afterlife. I'm sure it'd be hard to find virgins who would be willing to buried with me (or virgins at all for that matter) so I guess my fishing stuff will have to suffice. p.s., No grave robbers allowed. Go buy your own fishing stuff! Quote
PaparockArk Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 As for me, I don't much care, what my wife decides is fine by me because I will be too busy anyway. Quote
Bean Counter Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I forget who it was that said "My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell all of my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it". Quote
