Tpayneful Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I received a resume that had a cover page that was hand written, the resume had a smudged fingerprint on it and their were corrections to the resume in ink. Acronyms STINK! Try working with a federal or state government for a while and you will find that they only TALK in acronyms. RFQ, DCAA, FAR, GSA, UHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 13, 2008 Super User Posted February 13, 2008 If you can 't write an understandable post why should I bother in reading it ? Precisely. The thread that brought this whole thing up was one where the thread poster wanted to communicate with more members. That original thread post was so badly written as to be almost unreadable. Why would anyone want to try and communicate with someone who doesn't take the time to express their thoughts in a coherent way? Main Entry: com·mu·ni·cate Listen to the pronunciation of communicate Pronunciation: \k[ch601]-[ch712]myü-n[ch601]-[ch716]k[ch257]t\ Function: verb Inflected Form(s): com·mu·ni·cat·ed; com·mu·ni·cat·ing Etymology: Latin communicatus, past participle of communicare to impart, participate, from communis common more at mean Date: 1526 transitive verb1archaic : share2 a: to convey knowledge of or information about : make known <communicate a story> b: to reveal by clear signs <his fear communicated itself to his friends>3: to cause to pass from one to another <some diseases are easily communicated>intransitive verb1 to receive Communion2: to transmit information, thought, or feeling so that it is satisfactorily received or understood <two sides failing to communicate with each other>3: to open into each other : connect <the rooms communicate> Quote
dave Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 If you go back a few months ago and look at the thread that covered this same topic, the tones are 180 degrees different. That thread defended the ignorance and this one condemns it. Kudos to all for this position. Micro, I used to have the same problem. Hit preview post. It will then look like the post will in the forum. You will see errors more clearly because of the change of background. Works for me. I had a coach in high school that had a sign in his office that said, "practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted February 14, 2008 Super User Posted February 14, 2008 If you get used to taking shortcuts with grammar, spelling, etc., then you will be quickly doing so at all times. This is why it is a good idea to use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. AT ALL TIMES. If you are in the habit of doing so, it becomes second nature. Amen. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Some thoughts I forget who but someones bio message says " he who finds spelling errors can keep them! maybe some truth to that. Pretty much my opinion as well. Some are not really spelling errors they often are typing errors. The world is all about change ( not my strong suit either). I don't get the texting but the younger generation does. Change is tough but without it none of us would be on this forum we would be reading telegraph messages and fishing with cane poles! Many of the younger ones probably do know the language well. Maybe they are smarter than we think. They might just be saving time and thus more efficient. In that case who is right? hmmmm! Quote
dave Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 We are. Always err on the side of proper English and correct grammar. Correct is correct. It is not up for interpretation. Quote
