Dean Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Thinkin about getting one. Some of my freinds are getting into them and I figure why can't I. Anybody got any recommendations on a manufacturer, or personal preferences? Theres so many , Polaris, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha...ect. Also, if I wanted to get a plow attachment, would I need a 4x4? I was hoping I could find a used one for under or near $2000. I'm only 16 here so dont go crazy with ideas lol. All help is appreciated. Quote

bassdocktor Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Not a 4x4 but I have a Honda Recon 250 for just kinda playaing around. Sometimes will tow something around the yard if I don't wanna use the tractor. But awesome when there is some some hardpacked snow ice. You can drift all over and really get it sliding. As far as reliability most people who know alot about atvs will say Honda is the way to go. But any brand will really be good if you take care of it. Beside some plowing what else are you gonna use it for and where will you ride? Are you going to be hitting trails, mud pits, or do some GNCC racing. The biggest thing I can say is ride some different ones before you make a decision. Pretty much everyone will tell you buy the biggest you can. You'll prob want bigger later. Plus having some extra engine will be nice if you plan on plowing or working. bassdocktor Quote
Mobydick Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I suggest you go with a Yamaha. I have a 2001 Yamaha Warrior 350, 6 speed. All my buddies also have Yamaha's. If your looking for a sport type, go with a raptor 700. If your after a sport/work type, the Wolverine 450 4x4 is an awesome four-wheeler. They have 4-wheel drive on command. If you want something that will get the job done, check out the Grizzly 700 FI auto 4x4 eps. I will say though, if you get a raptor 700, you should ride it before you buy it. For some people the 700 has to much power. I have topped one out at 93 mph, that's not stock though. Stock may only reach 80 mph. If I ever get another one, I am gettin a Wolverine 450 4x4. They are the best ones out there I think. I have never had problems with mine, and my buddies havn't had any problems with their Yamaha's. bassdocktor is completely right that if you take care of it, any one will do. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 One word: HONDA they make the best 4 wheelers for ANY price. If you buy one you'll NEVER regret it! They last for decades!! Quote
georgiabassfisherman Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I cant stand Hondas I have had 2 of them and they could not handle the countryside. GO BUY YOU AN ARCTIC CAT I have one and they are the toughest 4 wheelers on the market right now. Quote
Fish Man Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 couldnt agree with georgiabassfisherman more, im guilty of not taking great care of my arctic cat and abusing it often and it still runs as good as the day we got her.ive taken her though water up to the handle bars. jumped it, ran into multiple trees, and even into ditches while not paying attention(long story) and the only damage is the front racks being only slightly bent......GREAT FOUR WHEELERS!!! Super User Tin Posted February 13, 2008 Super User Posted February 13, 2008 Yamaha Grizzly LOVE IT Quote
bassdocktor Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 There alot of good brands out there. It all depends on what you are going to be doing. If you plan to be riding in the winter/plowing finding one with EFI would be an advantage as the ones with carbs can take some time to really warm up. Moby just to let you know those Raptor are fast but 80+ is too high. I've never seen or read about a stock one breaking 80 on a GPS. For it to break 90 I'm guessing it was set up for drag racing. One thing that some of you may not have like about your Honda I'm guessing is the solid rear axle if you are hitting the back country. I'm sure some of you like the independent suspension all around especailly since you gain some extra ground clearance. I cant' comment on this since mine isn't but when I've sat on some of the Cats' they seem like they be kinda top heavy if you were gonna be riding fast on a trail. Hopefuly someone with one can chime in about that. It might just be me. Doon't forget about stuff like a helmet too when you finally pick one. Quote
bigdog Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Honda rancher 350 halls my fat butt around great and takes all the abuse I throw at it. I don't call it the beast for nothing ;D Quote
