February 13, 2008.  Associated Press....WASHINGTON - President Bush pressured the House on Wednesday to pass new rules for monitoring terrorists' communications, saying "terrorists are planning new attacks on our country ... that will make Sept. 11 pale by comparison."

Bush said he would not agree to give the House more time to debate a measure the Senate passed Tuesday governing the government's ability to work with telecommunications companies to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mails between suspected terrorists. The bill would give phone companies retroactive protection from lawsuits filed on the basis of cooperation they gave the government without court permission something Bush insisted on including in the bill.

If I read this correctly, the executive branch of the government can label anyone a suspected terrorist and wiretap them without a court order.

I wonder how our community feels about this.

It dosn't bother me.  I have nothing to hide.  If the government believes my next door neighbor is a terrorist I would certainly hope they would do everything they can to keep her from hurting my family and my fellow citizens.  If they believe I'm a terrorist, I invite them to "spy" on me as well.  If we have nothing to hide we should have nothing to worry about.

I have no problem with that, because I hardly talk on the phone and I doubt the government will wont to hear me and some friends talking fishing.

The only people against it are people who have something to hide.

Avid,

I sat and typed a big long response to your post. I erased it to save the grief of having "experts on national security" dissect it. I guess I feel like this:

some people will agree with it because they have faith in their goverment. Some people will not agree with it because that's trading freedoms for the illusion of safety. I personally am part of the latter.
