Well, I had another hobby in-between fishing I would say.  Going to the racetrack was the thing to do in Tulsa, OK when I was 15-16.  The 'midnight drags' went from 12am-3am.  This was street drags aka 'run what ya brung' king of races.  Sure you get the occasional drag car, but for the most part you have guys pulling up in their street cars.  A guy caught my eye (and a lot of others) in '93 driving a Mistubishi Eclipse turbo/AWD.  There weren't any modified import cars around this time...no Hondas with crazy wings or body kits and graphics.  Just camaros and supercharged mustangs.  This dude in his Eclipse could hang with these modded V8's, and my fascination ensued.  I became a DSM junkie, and purchased a Talon in '94 (DSM meaning Diamond Star Motors '90-'99...a joint venture between Mistubishi and Chrysler).   There was a turbo and non-turbo version of the Eclipse and Talon, with the turbo being made by mistu and available with AWD (all wheel drive).  Just had to give a little background on the DSM...not a ricer vehicle at all...even the domestic V8 guys respect a modified AWD DSM on the street.  Most DSM's don't use any nitrous...just massive turbos.  My money went into modifying my car before I got back into bass fishing, but no, I didn't run that fast!

Here is a video of John shepherd...him and Brent Raul have the fastest DSM's known.  No nitrous...street legal.  He is racing a blown 'Stang with a 300shot of nitrous.

Yep...street legal

I have a 29g tank that I am keeping guppies in and its a lot of fun. I also do parkour in the spring, summer, and fall but not during the winter because it hurts a lot more when you land. I also enjoy watching anime and drawing different kinds of anime to such as kawaii, kemominimo, and lolicon.

Always fishing. Used to be girls (close 2nd to fishing) until I got married. Was thinking of getting back into the rod building business but it's been a long time and I know there is a bunch of new stuff out there that I would have to weed through.

I have a few hobbies. But other then fishing making cars going fast is what I like. Right now I have a srt-4 and that can keep up with most mustnags un moded. I would really like to build a stroked 460 with a blower in a fox body stang. But I would like to get the srt done first. Iam looking at 400 hp. As of right now iam getting 230. But magzines like car and driver were getting any were from 260-275 hp. They claimed dodge was using a hot intercooler. I belive car and driver. Theres no way a 230hp car can reach 60 in 5.6 seconds. Iam looking at getting a cold air intake, 3in exhaust from the turbo back, bigger injectors, bigger throotle body, standalone ecu, to top it off a t3 50 trim turbo running 15lbs of boost. I will also build the engine to handle the power. This car handles like a dream right now. But i think mopar stage 3 coil overs, bigger sway bars, stronger engine mounts, also some thing so I don't get wheel hop.

I was way into paintball for awhile. I really enjoyed playing woods games on 50 acres with 8-15man teams. Especially limited paint games.

I also shot sporting clays for about 5 years. I won many tournaments in the adult classes when I was 15 and 16. Probably the only thing I was ever really good at. It was just too expensive. Yeah even more than bass fishing. I have shot 600 rounds of 12ga ammunition in 1 day countless times. I loaded all of my own shells though, with my own recipe and they ended up costing $2.74 a box for shells that were way better than any off the shelf shell. Still have all my shotguns though. My  Berettas are some of my most prized possessions.

Elk and goose hunting are things that I loved doing, but like clays, moving to california made that tough.

I also imbibed in Jack Daniels and easy women a little more than was necessary.

Hunting

It is the only thing I do that I am cocky about. I am the best deer hunter I know. The only problem is that it is no longer a challange. I still fill the freezer every year but after that I am done. I don't spend 200 days a year in the woods like I used to.

That sucks when a 7.86 beats a 7.70.... he got mowed down on the tree....then again, I'm sure you know who I was pulling for.  :P;)

d**n...somebody actually noticed that!  Yeah...a seasoned guy like shephard shouldn't have gotten schooled like that on the tree.  Worst launch I've seen in a while.  Anyhoo...my point was that DSM's aren't in the same category as the Hondoo-doo's.  Any more...people associate all imports with the body kit and wing...something DSM guys hate.  We are all performance generally.  DSM's get respect...no?

IMO it's impressive, considering he had to shift the car. I would bet the Mustang has a 2 speed Powerglide in it in order to run that fast.  What's the race weight of the Mitsy/Talon? I understand that it has a 4cyl, but you're also talking AWD vs a Fox body Mustang that also more than likely weighs 3200-3400 lbs depending on a few factors. Just curious.....You asked what other hobbies we had ;):) I've been around a bit.

I used to play Whirlyball - a lot.  Was on a national championship team.  If you don't know what it is, don't ask.  It's kinda weird, actually.

I also was into boomerangs for awhile.  Even competed in them.  I still own 14 'rangs.  Haven't thrown them in years, tho.

Ya, I'm a dork.  ;)

On the "cool" side, I was a licensed pyrotechnician for 6 years.  I shot professional fireworks displays.  Used to do 30-40 shows a year.  The most famous would be the Space Needle on New Years, and Ala Moana (Hawaii) for the 4th of July (did several of each).  I say this was a hobby because the pay was.... well, it wasn't enough to live off of, that's for sure.  I did it 'on the side' while still doing my regular job.  You can't beat the sound of a crowd of a million+ people screaming/cheering at the end of a finale - and it's for YOU.  What a rush!

Hey Glenn: You familiar with an Itailan Immigrant family from Brooklyn named the GRUCCI Family. When I was growing up they reigned supreme in our local fireworks shows?

I used to ride dirtbikes pretty heavily.  Until mine broke and it was gonna cost 800 bucks.  So then I decided to start fishing again because I didn't have to spend any much money.......... hmmmmm........ come to think of it, that plan really didn't work to well :-?.  I could have bought my 2008 KTM by now.

Well, I can only guess the race weight, but stock they are about 3200lbs (AWD isnt light).  Shepherd is running all steel, i.e. no carbon fiber hood or anything, but he is running a gutted interior and lexan windows...as Im sure the Mustang is at that level.  No doubt under 3klbs.  Pretty big supercharger on the Stang...love those boosted vehicles!  I just have always been a turbo fan.  People dont realize how much talent it takes to get a car to run that fast.  When I started modding my Talon...I thought it was just money.  "If I had the money for parts...Id be that fast" I thought.  Not so.  Build, tuning, and driving are about as important as the fisherman versus the equipment.

Yup, I know of them.  They're very well-known.  They're primarily on the east coast.  I worked for the Souza family - Pyrospectaculars.

Grucci and Souza families...sounds like mafia doesn't it?  ;D

Ah, There is no such thing as the Mafia . This is according to Joe Columbo Jr. Making a speech , on Columbus day, at Columbus Circle In Manhattan. He was representing an organization he started, much to the dismay of the older Dons: The Italian American Anti Deformation League. After he finished his speech, he was assisnated right in front of the TV camers, by a Gallo Gunman! Only in NY

His family then ordered the famous retribution hit on Joe Gallo , at Umberto's Clam Bar in Little Italy 8-)

That rides pretty heavily with me, considering I'm a pyro.  I am a total firework junkie.  My father in-law runs a firework stand every year, so I get the 'good' fireworks at cost (the repeaters...or multi-action as they are sometimes called).  He is also a pyro, and spends the bulk of his budget on the 'good' fireworks.   I spent $500 last year and our display lasted 2.5hrs.  This did include beer drinking though...
