I was sad to hear that Bob Knight retired.  I always thought he was one of the best to ever patrol the side of the court.  His demeanor may have been brash and overbearing, but he was a solid fundamental basketball coach who was fiercely loyal to his players.

ABSOLUTE BB GENIUS. Did he go overboard sometimes, Yeah, but then again I am not him or any of his players, who when all said and done would always go to the mat for him.

I attended IU and got see and experience this guy first hand.  He is a genius in general.  It didn't matter what it was, Knight was an obsessive.  But the one thing he loved more than anything else was basketball followed by golf.  He was also, I heared, an excellent teacher.  I wish him well.

As a side note, I always wanted to see this guy commentate a game (uncensored).  I would be a riot.

This is how I will always remember him.

I've always liked bob. He reminds me of my old H.S. basketball coach.  He was one angry S.O.B. but let me tell you, he knew his stuff.  He was there for 3 years, and each year he brought us deeper into the playoffs, something our school had never done.  He quit at the end of my senior season.  After he left the school has never been back to the playoffs.

Sometimes it takes a real hard a$$ to get where you want to go.  I'm definately sad to see him go.  Let's see if his son can take over.

Bobby reminds me of guy with a bad temper that doesn't need to be around kids.

Other coaches have accomplished the same thing with out wrapping their hands on their players throat.

As for his genious in coaching, what did he accomplish at Tech?   No conference titles, no blue chippers knocking on the door to play for him either.    9 years, and he got the win record.

Bobby wan't even the big new in the Big 12!!!!!

Knight always wanted respect.

As a basketball coach he received respect.

He never gave anyone else respect.

It will be interesting to see how he handles himself now that he is out of coaching.

Can't wait for the next episode of "Bobby Knight is an ***."

After the "game face" interview how could you not like the guy. He never got caught up in anyone elses BS. He was a basketball coach and a mentor and didn't try to be anything else.

Great coach who was very passionate about the game - got the better of him at times.  I loved the fact that he told it like it was and didn't play the games with the media.  My favorite "Knight moment" was when he was doing a post game press conference and asked a reporter to repeat his question.  He then looked at the reporter and pointed to the glass in front of him and said the glass could ask a more intelligent question than he could.  That was a riot.

I am under the impression he was an avid fishermen as well. If there as an ability t o vote for both in this poll I would have chosen that.
