I say destory wal-mart!!!! What did the other oil company make? That is total bull, not to be smart or anything but do you work at Walmart do you know what their pay is. I work for Walmart as does my wife. I also know for a fact that they have several health plans to choose from. It just depends on what kind of deductable you want. It never seems to surprise me how much people complain about Wal-Mart, I mean they tell you what your salary is going to be before you start. And those who bad mouth them are always the first ones to run to Wal-Mart when they need to buy something. I appologize in advance if this offends anyone but this is my opinion. TS Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted February 3, 2008 Super User Posted February 3, 2008 I'm glad that Burley and Doug discussed Exxon's profit margin. A lot of people just look at the amount of profit and forget how small the profit margin really was. For those who don't know what we are talking about, Total Sales, minus Total Costs, equals Profit Margin. This means that Exxon SPENT about $309.7 Billion (that's a LOT of jobs they created) to make their profit. As a publically traded company, Exxon has an obligation to its shareholders (and its employees) to maximize its profit. Exxon's profit margin is in line with other well-run businesses. Quote

tntitans21399 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Before you bash Walmart, atleast Walmart keeps cutting cost while gas companies keep raising. It's companies like Walmart, Home Depot, Kroger, and other big stores now getting into the gas business that will help bring the gas prices down because the more you use them the more the bigger gas companies will have to lower prices to get you to come back to them. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 8, 2008 Super User Posted February 8, 2008 tntitans, I have said the before, but I will say it again. The oil companies do not control the price of oil. The market place does. Oil is traded on the open market just like any other commodity, e.g. wheat or beef. The fortunes of the oil companies rise and fall with the Market Place. Quote
Troutfisher Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 You guys say Exxon made their profit like it is a bad thing. If they know how to make money and correctly run a global wide business, then how is that bad? The company themselves do not control the gas prices. They know how to make money efficiently and effectively. Imagine what would happen if Exxon Corporation just said "We quit," and fired all employees and shut everything down. Then think of what would happen to our economy, gas prices, everything. I'm just offering a counter point. Quote
