Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 Tom Petty rocks! Glad he didn't have a nipple-slip. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 Ya, that was a great half-time show. I'm also glad half-time didn't take almost an hour like previous years. Quote
Guest muddy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I don't get this Tom Petty Guy at all Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2008 Would you have preferred more Janet or Prince? Last two years were nothing but filth. This year: good music, nice show, and no obscene overtures. Quote
Guest muddy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 No,, I expect such. Maybe a little Wyton Marsallis,5 Blind Boys or perhaps some zydeco or cajun music, something like that. Perhaps some BBKING, as he will not be around too long. Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2008 Maybe a little Wyton Marsallis,5 Blind Boys or perhaps some zydeco or cajun music, something like that. No need to be rude, Muddy. I know you don't like me. You've made that quite clear. Quote
FishingBuds Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 How about some Freddy Fender or Don Ho Quote
Guest muddy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 This is the first super bowl I have seen in years, so i cant comment on Janet jackson. I can tell you , having played some of those funky time signatures that Prince has put together, that his music is far more exhillirating and for me challenging than what i just watched. I have a problem with folks putting artists into Moral Corners. What every one likes is their business. Sexuality has always been part of Rock and Roll, it's born from New Orleans and Memphis, the sexuality is inherent to the music. There was a grat musican/composer from the 60's , he was banned by certain church groups, and his music frequently had absurd and somertimes very sexual lyrics that kept him off mass airplay. He had a slogan for his band" This Band is not commercially acceptable" Today his charts are taught on University Level: FRANK ZAPPA PS Some the those cheerleaders ain't covering too much are they?Oh I forgot NFL is all about family values Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2008 How about some Freddy Fender or Don Ho Now that would be a good trick! Quote
Guest muddy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 OK, I altered my post, you are right Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2008 the sexuality is inherent to the music. I respect your opinion. Sexuality is inherent to music. But it shouldn't be inherent to the Super Bowl. I do have a problem with a planned "wardrobe malfunction" that exposes a nipple, or a backlit bedsheet shadow show that depicts ejaculation. There's no place for that in a Super Bowl halftime show that kids are watching. I know Prince and Janet Jackson's character. If I want that, I'll buy tickets to their show. I don't want it flushed into my living room and onto my kids. I will say I do like Prince's music. One of the best guitarists ever. Janet, however, just sucks. Quote

Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2008 Loved the half time show this year I like Petty. I can remember his music in context. I remember when I was dating my wife cruising down to the Outer Banks in my Thunderbird listening to Runnin' Down A Dream. Great music, great weekend... TP and the Heartbreakers have churned out some good tunes. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 I enjoyed the show. I think Petty's "d**n the Torpedo's" album needs to be in any collection. His best work IMO. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 I like Petty even if he is a Gayturd. Quote
FishingBuds Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 All those are too typical Put together Hayseed Dixie with Jerry Lee Lewis as the lead singer-now that would be intertainment 8-) Beat That Quote
