HEELS! HEELS! HEELS

This is one of the few occasions where my " Who Cares" post does not apply. College basketball is awesome, but the Blue Devils and the Tarheels is a rivalry for all the ages!

Jimmy V - yes a Tarheel quoting Jimmy V but he was a great coach - said that if you can win the last 5 minutes for the first half, the first 5 minutes of the second half and the last 5 minutes of the second half you will win the game.  I have noticed that this typically holds true.  I will give my 'heels a slight edge in the last 5 mins of the first half - especially the last 3 mins.

We need Lawson in the game.  Ginyard is doing well.  I love Quenton Thomas, ran into him back in the summer at Dick's Sporting Goods and seems like a real good kid, but, bless his heart he is a turn over waiting to happen - great defensive player but I find myself getting anxious when he's at point.

Hansbtough is carrying the team right now.  The others need to step it up a bit

Tyler Hansbrough and his brother Ben used to come to Cape Girardeau from Poplar Bluff HS and hammer the local boys on a regular basis. I HATED them.

Now that Tyler's at UNC I find myself rooting for him.

It almost makes me sick to say this, but...Go UNC!

Hans[censored] gets away with more crap than I've seen in the college game.

I f'n hate UNC with a passion usually reserved for politicians and hippies.

Burley, I typically agree with you - and do once again Tyler Hansbrough gets away with a lot:

2007 NABC First Team All-American

2007 Sporting News First Team All-American

2007 AP Second Team All-American

Unanimous 2007 All-ACC First Team Selection

2006 AP Third Team All-American

2006 Rupp Award First Team All-American

Sporting News 2006 First Team All-American Selection

2006 First Team ACC All-Tournament Team Selection

Unanimous 2006 ACC All-Freshman Team

Unanimous 2006 All-ACC First Team Selection (Hansbrough is the first freshman ever to earn this honor)

Unanimous 2006 ACC Freshman of the Year

10 time ACC Rookie of the Week (ties Kenny Anderson of Georgia Tech for most all time)

Most Points by a Tar Heel freshman in a game

Most Points by a Tar Heel in the Dean dome

Awards and recognition for his God given talent, that is.....

;)

And he just passed MJ in scoring at UNC.

Good game by Duke. arrrgggghhhhhh....

The three-point shots hurt - on both ends - and the missed FTs really hurt as well. Hansbrough was about the only one that showed up but he missed to many FTs. Greene was playing well but fouled out. The defense was poor as Duke got almost any and all shots they wanted - and they hit them. All Duke had to do was 2x & 3x down on Hansbrough and they would shut down the offense.

We were outplayed - Duke wanted it more - as much as it pains me to say that.

Still proud of my 'heels though. I'll be flying my colors tomorrow, like I was today, for the dookies I work with. That's what makes the rivalry fun.  GO HEELS!

I love Duke, and I'm excited they won last night, but I don't think they were the best team on the court last night.

Duke looks like a great regular season team that will probably make it to the Elite 8, then lose.  They don't have a a dominant big man and rely way too much on the 3.  If their 3-ball quits falling agains a descent team in the tournament (which it always does) they're done.  This reminds me of the JJ Reddick teams...fun to watch, but destined to lose. :'(

I agree preach4bass - see a Tar Heel and Duke can get along - Duke is relying heavy on the 3-pt shot.  Live and die by the 3-pt if its falling, you win, if its missing you lose.

Of course, my heels last night were doing the same thing with Hansbrough.  They would pass the ball inside to Hansbrough and then turn into spectators.  If Hansbrough missed, Duke got the rebound and were off running.  It just kills me, becuase those guys are so much better than that!

I am a big Carolina fan, and in the past I would have made fun of Duke and talked about my dislike of the Blue Devils. However I had major spinal surgery to remove a tumor in August of 2006 at Duke and I found out yesterday that I am going to have more surgery because the tumor is back. So I have sort a split allegiance going on right now. I am Carolina at heart but I owe alot to Duke University and I think they are great team that deserves alot of respect. More than I can say for NC State.

Understandable. So, sorry to hear your tumor has returned.

Yes, its just a game. Somethings are more important than basketball.

Please let me know if you or your family need anything while you are here. We will do our best to help anyway we can. We are about 20-30 mins from the hospital - on the other side of Chapel Hill. I work 5-10 mins from the hospital south down 15-501. Let me know if we can help. In the mean tine, will lift you up in prayer.

Thank You ejtaylor,

It's nice to know that there are people that will lend a helping hand.

Frogtog,

There is nothing wrong with State as a school, I just do not classify them on the same level as Duke and Carolina. Great engineering school though.

No problem.  Once again, let me know.  Basketball is basketball, but people are what's important.  We are not from this area from the mountains and have had an opportunity to help as we can when family, friends, and friends of friends/family have had to come either to Duke or UNC for care.  IMO, that's why God put us here to help others get through the tough times.

I have somewhat of a similar struggle.  I despise dook basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, golf, etc., with a passion, but, IMHO, Duke's med school and hospital is top notch.

The VA at Duke TOTALLY saved my Grandfather's life.  He was 84 with a very bad heart condition and elected for somewhat of a risky surgery.  The VA hospital in Roanoke, VA wouldn't operate on him so they sent him to Duke.  There were complications during surgery and he was literally dieing.  Hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life was call my Mom and tell her that her father was about to die and she, along with the rest of the family, needed to get here now.

They tried a new procedure on him that was developed there at Duke but had never been done for someone of his age.  After a lot of prayer and a few hours later he was fine!  I learned that the docs at the VA Hospital are the same docs that are at the Duke hospital.  They literally go across the street to the VA hospital.  I found out later that the surgeon operating my Granddad was the guy who developed the procedure and was one of the top cardiac surgeons in the country.

I had 6 more years with my Granddad thanks to Duke.
